on my other thread, i already found out what kind of tranny fluids and diff fluids to get for our car but for diff fluids, i've heard that it has to be done at certain temp. to level it?
anyone has experience?
so for diff fluids service, i need to make another visit to diff place?

Actually I haven't found the actual or conclusive time on that service. I've seen lifetime, or 50K miles, or 3 years, all from BMW published data.

The automatic transmission requires that fluid to be at a certain temp for correct fill level.

Correct, no special procedure needed for diff...other than it does not have a drain plug so you need to get something to suck it out from the bottom of the pan, or take off the rear diff cover. Tranny fluid is the trickier one.

does anyone by anychance to know how many quarts of tranny oil that is needed? 2? 3? or more?

Bentley says it holds 9.5 liters...some will be trapped in the torque converter though. I think in one of the other threads the OP said he used ~7liters to fill. It definitely isn't cheap for the fluid.

Same here - three independent BMW/Porsche/MB shops in my area and all three absolutely laugh at BMW's maintenance schedule. Lifetime coolant/transmission/differential fluid is just comical.

Two of the shops showed me digital pictures of various 3 and 5 series motors filled with sludge telling me "these are customers who followed BMW's 15,000 mile oil change guidelines".

I personally swapped out to Red Line 5w40 - my car's max. oil temp hovers in the 220 to 230-degree range contrasted against 240 to 250-degree range when running BMW 5W30 oil. When I had the dealer reset my oil change indicator, I provided receipts of the filter and oil and they added it to my car's file. The service advisor's only comment was "that is excellent oil - I bet your engine oil is running cooler which in turn will help out those two puffers".

This is not an endorsement, simply an observation. Do your own homework and make a choice based on that.

according to this article, RP and RR oils are group 5 which is great performer for shoter period time but not as good as group 4 oils such as amsoil...

so far i found, most of amsoil, mobile 1 0w40 (?), german castrol 0w30, some arrinol and Liqui Moly brand oils...

I'm not sure you understand the definition of a group 4 oil. If you did, then you can just look at the MSDS (which is where they have to legally declare the truth) and find the information. There isn't any list, saying, don't by my product so I can loose money. Ask less anoying questions, do more and then decide for yourself what you want.

You can have a group IV oil with a crappy additive package. And you can have a well engineered Group III oil that performs very well.

We as consumers have only one hard set of facts, and that is what standards an oil meets.
