I think COBB is Kaiser Souzai. It doesn't exist for the N55.

Any update on the N55 BMW tune -

COBB Tuning Still no major updates yet, but the N55 shop car has wires and connectors all over the place right now for testing! Development is still in progress, but going strong. - Ian19 April at 04:08 ·

Really? The same story for a year and 4 months? Is there one guy working on this part time every other saturday for 4 hours?

Sorry I cant tell you right now. My goal is to install the JB3 monday. I did remove the air box just to take a better look and I did remove the 4 sensors to make sure I am able to perform the job completley. It seems easy when you remove the air box, and anywayremoving the air box is a joke.

I like the older DME tune, anyway my dealer was unable to update with the newer version... I will try the Jb3 and see... I only want a 30-40 hp jump if the JB3 can do so, why not,

It's sad when a JB4 vendor is posting more than Cobb on this thread, no offense Mike.

As you said, i like an old DME tune, new version is detuned as i hear.

See my review in the Jb3 vs Jb4 thread.

Yeah Cobb did loose my business and I have no regret. Summer is when I enjoy my 135i, I maybe have 4 summer left with my car before I move with something else, wasting a full summer was out of question.

I also like the older DME version, the engine sound better, it make so much burble and backfire, it sound raw and I like that. The newer version reduce this raw sound.

x2

its like a super slow race between ess, giac and cobb to see who will come up with an obd-II based tune for this car first.

whichever one it is will get my business

At this point I have given up, JB4 is ok but its not earth shattering power even with map 7 and 103 octane... Proceed was and felt much more powerful but it was also very unstable and car was constantly in limp mode. I am hearing really bad things about OBDII devices that they may never be able to crack the n55 which is what BMW wanted and tried to do all along.

In your opinion when is the transition from older to newer versions ? Or what version was the softer sound?

I got updated last time in April 2011 and definitively have the burble and backfire raw sound you describe.

I have either 2.41 (March 22th 2011) or 2.42 (April 26th 2011).

You should really drive my car, not a single issue. Procede 16.5psi butter smooth power delivery and above stock timing advance on 94 octane (with not a single timing drop and logging every weeks).

hearing from who? the companies who sell piggybacks?

the first obd-II flash tune for the n54 took like 3 years.

its only been barely 2 years for the n55.

no doubt they will get the obd-II based tunes done for these cars, just like they did for the n54, and just like they have done for every other car that is being made today.

the only delay imo is demand. there is such a higher demand for n54 based tunes that the n55 is on the back burner. as more cars get sold with n55 motors, the profitability of a product for them goes up, and thats when things will get done.

You're right.. There is no such thing as an un-crackable DME or anything for that matter. Its just a matter of how much time and how much money you want to throw at it. There needs to be a cost benefit there, and obviously the N54 market is still king, both for the flashes and the piggies so a lot of energy and resources are still devoted to the N54.

I know Terry from BMS is now also focused on the N20 so there is a lot of future development companies need to look at as the N20 market will potentially be bigger then the N55 market so hopefully the N55 doesn't get bypassed in development.
