So the new m4 is gonna be a inline 6 twinturbo, sounds like the n54 to me......so all the time the ppl on the m3 forums hated the 335i for being turbo charged and now the new m4 is turbo'd.... Will they stop hating on the n54? Lol

No hate here, N54 can put down good power. The new M3 will make a good street car. I will now go else where for my track fun.
Probably going to pick up a nice second hand 997. |

I don't know anyone that hates on this engine. If they are it's just because of the great power output, mainly m3 guys that don't like there car getting pulled on my a tune only 135/335

On a side note, has it been mentioned yet that the s55 in the new m3/m4 will be twin turbo? Aren't there still rumors of the tri/multi turbo set up? I feel as though that platform has great things coming to it.

I've seen the hate, what I don't get is why m3 people seem to accept the 1m and it's speed way better than a 335/135. Most m3 owners that hate on a 335 have never driven a tuned one , if they did they'd realize how fun a properly tuned 135/335 can be on the street

If m3 drivers drive a fully tuned 335/135 they wouldnt own thier m3 anymore. They can hate all they want but the 3 series m cars all came with inline 6's so really we should all hate on thier v8's. If anything they dont belong. What they need to remeber is cars are getting faster. And without the aid of a turbo the powerband on an inline 6 would be too slow and crapped on by jcw mini's, and megan sport rs' s. So hate all they want but if it wasnt for the advancement of turbos on these engines we'd all be bowing down the wrong cars.

I have a tuned N54 and have driven a tuned S65 and, I still prefer the S65. I don't hate the N54 but, I just prefer the characteristics of the S65. Everyone has their preference. I will say, the N54 was a contentious motor, when it debuted. But, I think people have become accustomed to the idea of a turbocharged BMW motor, particularly since the N54 is such a good performer. The hate has died down. |

All new bmw's will be turbo charged eventually. The v8's will die out and be replaced as they will be impossible to own soon enough. Bmw have planned alk 1, 2, 3 and 4 series high oerformance models to uses 4-6 cycle engine with single twin scroll or twin turbo set ups. People ahould stoo crying now and get used to it.

Just moved from a tuned 335i to an m3. It's a different car. The 335i daily driving actually feels faster than the m3. The m3 at 7500 rpm feels much faster than the 335i. The m3 transmission is also amazing.
No hate on 335i from me here, but having owned both now I think the M3 is a better car. It's also twice as expensive and worse in traffic. Also, it looks way fucking cooler. |

It's not a fair comparison, in my opinion. There's so much more to it than just the power plant.

N52 guy just strolling through. I think you guys are thinking of it in the wrong perspective. The n54 guys get all cocky (no offense) that just with a couple bills your car will be faster than an M3 in a straight line, basically the m3 guys probably hate you guys because you guys thinking you guys are better. They don't hate the engine, they just hate the drivers. Probably..

The new M3 however i have no interest in, if it really is going to come with a blown inline 6 whats the difference between that and a well tuned N54/N55 powered car |
