Need help understanding previous owners L7 upgrade

Recently picked up an 2007 E91 non idrive/ccc and it looks like one of the previous owners upgraded to the L7 amp and maybe some other bits at some point. The sound is ok, distorts easily at mid/high volumes, but is rather flat overall. Looks like base audio speakers as they aren't bright silver in color like L7 speakers.

Looking to upgrade it with as much PnP as possible. Not sure if the L7 speakers or BSW speakers will improve the audio or if the L7 isn't the best to begin with. I do have a BSW amp ready, but the L7 harness looks different.

Car came spec'd as:
663 Professional Radio
677 Hi-Fi System Professional
655 Satellite Radio

However, in the trunk I see an L7 amp with the green fiber optic cable (I see a red light when on - so I assume it's working).

From what I can tell, car is equipped with:
Front Center Channel Speaker
Front Door Mid + Sail Panel Tweeter
Front Underseat Subwoofers
Rear Door Panel Mid & Tweeter
Rear overhead Mid? (Due to wagon)

Your describing the stock system.
What do you mean by BSW.
You have already listed option 677 so you think the car didn't
come with 677.
Run mdecoder.com on the Vin if you doubt it came with that.

Rear overhead speakers where part of the stock L7 system in a E91.

Distortion is due to BMW amps having 10 percent distortion at rated power.

If you have the BSW amp that is the current 8 channel DSP/AMP that is essentially a re marketed Audio Tech Fisher BMW7 that has locked DSP I imagine it would be a lot better . But it's short channels for some position's.
Also requires a Most to analog converter to work.
logic 7 9 channels BMW7 7 channels

Or reprogramming the Head Unit to Hi Fi and running some pre out signals from the head unit.

You're right, after a bit more research it does seem like the car came with Logic 7 factory. For some reason, I thought it was a rare option and the previous owner retrofitted it, but that's not the case.

I've adjusted most of the EQ gains down and that's made a ton of difference. While better, it still doesn't compare to my base E82 audio with BSW/Bav Audio amp upgrade.

And yes, form factor wise the BSW amp looks identical to the BMW7 amp. I'd rather have a bit more control and wouldn't mind selling it for a more capable DSP. It seems most have gone the MS-8 route. I've had this setup in another car in the past, but would prefer a newer DSP. Any recommendations for a more updated MS-8 option?

At this point the ms-8 is an obsolete POS.
Stuff like the BMW 7 is way ahead of it and has decently powered
amp channels. MS-8 people where mostly buying because there was
nothing else at the time and it was self calibrating.
Although people where never quite satisfied with the auto cals it gave.

Audio Tech Fisher (helix , match ) has a bunch of other stuff

The stock BMW amps are at 10 percent distortion at there rated power.

The individual amp has higher power some people sometimes try to use that.
The only company that makes a working amp compatible with the Most Bus
Inputs is Mobridge as far as I know.

Mosconi makes some good stuff I hear.
Jl amps are good and they now have DSP.

I would still put Audiotech Fisher at the top for the better DSP.
