BMW Fuel Injector Flush Special for $149 ?

I saw that my local dealership has this Service Special a few days ago, so I contacted them and I received this from a BMW Service Advisor....

"I would recommend performing a fuel injector flush as this vehicle (11' 323i with 100k km) still has solenoid type fuel injectors. It is something that cleans the injector internally from build up, injector tip and also the back side of the intake valve.

It is recommended approx every 100,000km.The injection cleaning equipment attaches directly to the fuel rail and the fuel pump is disabled in order for the concentrated cleaning to happen through the fuel rail and injectors."

=============================================

I would really like to hear some opinions, experiences or any idea about this procedure. Ive found few positive and many negative reviews of this service.

Should I go for it?

Should I just buy a $8 Lucas Injector Cleaner?

Waste of money. Especially on a 323's injectors.

I am in same boat as you, '11 323i w/ ~90k km and I also had the service advisor suggesting this (injector flush) and also IIRC something called "engine flush" at last oil change.

Just my $0.02 but if you have always used top tier gas (Shell, Esso, etc) w/ 91+ octane in the car, and you are not noticing any issues I would not bother. N52 is not a direct injected engine, and the detergents in top tier gas should be keeping injectors pretty clean on their own even at 100k km.

As a general rule, I try to be cautious about any service suggested by a SA that is not also part of the manufacturer's recommended maintenance.

Keep in mind that Service Advisors get bonuses based on their up-sale of services.

So, simply based on that half the crap they recommend is for their own benefit.

Requirement for that job for new hires is not to know the car brand but rather to know the service software. That tells you everything. It's the same across all manufacturers.

I have over 200k km on my N52. Original injectors, plugs changed once. The motor puts like day one. Don't waste your money on these up-sells at the dealers.

Garage List
Think about it this way, for $150 (with BMW tax and all) do you think they are doing anything more than dumping the same $10 bottle of injector cleaner as you would use? Properly cleaning an injector would require removal, which in itself is a relatively big job. No way they could do that job and only charge that amount. Scam, just do it yourself.

Spark plugs and ignition coils were replaced 2 weeks ago. Injectors, what's wrong with them? What gaskets /fluids would u recommend to be replaced ? Coolant system flush, for instance ? Should I replace the wp and thersmotat even if I have no overheating issues?

What did you end up doing?
Currently in the same boat as you were. Debating to do a Fuel injector cleaning.
Not sure whether to do it at Pfaff in Mississauga or go to crappytire and get a cleaner

Did not find any "good reason " to spend the $150...Bought a bottle of Lucas and thats it. I noticed little/some improvement in gas consumption .
