Thank you for contacting BMW Customer Information.

We recommend Castrol oils for our vehicle range, as this is the brand we use at factory production and is tried and tested in our product range.

For your 335d, we recommend Castrol Edge Turbo Diesel, 0W-30.

Please do contact me should you have any further questions.

Yours sincerely

So, if you're supplying your own oil for a 335d, make sure it's Castrol Edge TD 0W-30 and make sure the dealer doesn't substitute it for something else. I feel a strong letter coming on.

And the dealer forgot to stamp my service book.

Mate, just confirms how shite dealers are these days. I unfortunately have had it worse before though, the put another 30k on my car in my service book. Then i moaned so he crossed it out and Re-wrote it.

I said get me a new service book.

Funnily enough, I had a missed call from the dealer (who left a message) asking if everything was completely to my satisfaction!

I had been meaning to write a stern letter, but I'll now call them back - to confirm that I was not satisfied....

Mobil 1 0W-40 is not really recommended for use as it doesn't conform to LL04 spec (which BMW stipulate). In practice, Mobil 1 normal might be a tiny bit too thin. However, you can use Mobil 1 Motorsport Oil, which is a 15-50 spec. It's more viscous, so you lose perhaps half a bhp when the engine is cold, but it does the business once it's warmed up...

Anyone know if it's the same oil for the 330d? If so, a trip to Homebase is on the cards.

I take it you didn't get the microfilter done at the same time?

Does anyone know if there are any petrol stations which sell Castrol Edge in 4l bottles? I only ever seem to find it in 1l bottles.

Also if you took the oil in in 1l bottles how were BMW about it? they will just pump out of a a large container I assume!

Thats both the EDGE TD and EDGE petrol.

But there's only 1 bottle in stock in 8 branches within 30 miles of Manchester..

I went to Homebase in Seven Kings (none) & Romford (i just cleared out). Neither had any edge TD oil left. I bought 8 Edge 0w30 from Romford for my cousins TT.

There's another branch up the road from me showing 12 TD 0w30 edge TD in stock. I'm travelling to Warrington with the family on Sunday. If you can collect it from there i'll happily get some for you from the other store near me.

The dealership was alright and I guess they poured it straight into the engine.

Did you spill the oil on the shelf? . That's good if they can order oil in...I didn't ask that one.

I remember you from uk-mkivs/tdi days and recently spotted you a few times driving the e90 sporting blacklines, it looks very nice. Trust you're keeping well.

Have just been out to Homebase and bought 2 bottles for that price, to keep in the garage for any topping up needed in the future.
