USAA - Is it worth it?

I was thinking to join USAA for insurance and other stuff. Was wondering if anyone else has it what they think about the company.
Thanks!

I have had USAA for over 40 years for both cars and house. Couldn't be happier. Very low cost and excellent service. Also, my wife and I are both over 65 also and USAA gives us a senior driver rebate at the end of the year every year. Last year it was $699. When our total insurance for both cars is $1800 per year, getting $699 back makes the rates really reasonable and that's for $200 deductible.

Agreed, been with them for 27 years now covering home, auto and have a credit card through them. Very pleased with prices and service! We also get a rebate at the end of the year though being younger than SakhirM4, my rebate is typically around $250.

I would get it if I could. It is the highest rated insurance company by Consumer Reports. I have AMICA, which is also highly rated. My son used GEICO, got rear ended, and they paid very quickly and gave very good service on that claim. Fixed it at my favorite body shop.

I do everything with USAA, banking, insurance etc...almost twenty years now.
You would have to pry my USAA membership from my cold dead hands. USAA handles everything I have except my BMW financing and only because BMW was so aggressive with their rates. But I plan on refinancing with USAA in about a year.

They have been nothing short of 100% percent with me, shit they're so cool that it's not uncommon for me to just sit on the phone talking about nothing long after my issue has been dealt with...I once talked to one of the customer service chicks for almost an hour about nursing school and one of the insurance dudes for about forty minutes about why I had chosen an Evo X over the STI.

In fact, they're customer service alone, will keep me with them even if someone else is cheaper. You'd need to cut they're rate in half for me to consider the benefit.

Let me make it simple, if you're able to join and don't, you're a dumbass.

Customer service is absolutely unparalleled. I use them for nearly everything (auto insurance, home insurance, floater, checking, previous auto loans, etc)... If BMW wasn't gracious enough to offer me 0.9% on a 2017 then I would of even bothered shopping around and used USAA for my M3.

I use them as well for Auto + Home insurance, they are good but their prices are higher than Geico, Progressive, whathaveyou. Had a couple auto loans through them but their rates are higher and you would never get 0.9 from USAA for up to 72 months like BMW has offered. They simply cannot match what automakers can give.

Like others said their customer service is great and you really do get what you pay for with them. FFS my rebate was only $30 this year.

Yep. I have a checking account but use them for nothing else. At least for me their rates can't match others so have ended up giving them no business.

Yes definitely. I have a checking account with no fees for any ATM. I also used their car buying service to but the M235... Saved more than 10% and it was a complete haggle, hassle free transaction. This company is phenomenal to deal with customer service wise as well.

When the commercials say USAA member for life, it's absolutely true, just like the testimonials of Blksnowflake and SakhirM4 previously stated in this thread and of whom I respect as very solid forum members.....you cannot go wrong with USAA. I have been a member since 1986 when I joined the military. At first I only did car insurance, then I added home, banking, credit card, and investments. I plan on doing life insurance with them next year.

It's the little things that make the company great. like refunding of your non USAA ATM fees, the end of year subscriber account refund (kind of like a dividend payout), the immediate response when you call or email, and the absolute best customer service. In certain instances, I can get cheaper rates on some of their competitors products but you get what you pay for.

My son had his ATM card stolen and they lifted about $600 from his account, USAA put the money back in the next day.

I have had two households going over the last 2 years, when you have renters insurance with USAA you are covered worldwide with one policy, no matter how many places you are living at.

Their credit card rates are phenomenal and when the member deploys the interest rate get reduced to 0%.

I have had other companies along the way that I have insured things with and after a claim they drop you, not USAA......you truly will be a customer for life.

Had them for a few years but dropped them due to a lack of offering a multi-line discount and better rates.

Just an FYI, You should confirm this but not everyone is in the same pool. Officers, enlisted, family members, are all in different pools.

My family joined in 1966.

I also have been a USAA member since 1991. Ditto to what everyone has already stated. Excellent coverage and customer service. Just wish they had homeowners insurance for Guam...

Just want to highlight a quick story. I was in San Antonio at a conference at the Omni Hotel just across the street from their sprawling facility. A group of us (about 10 AF AD) went to the Alamo Café across the street. When we went to pay our bill, the waiter said someone already covered it and thanked us for our service to our country. I later found out it was most likely a USAA manager since the café is close to their facility and it actually happens quite often.

Been using them for years now and I recommend for insurance and everything else. Haven't had a single issue with them.

The checking accounts and credit cards are pretty good. Instantaneous transfers from my Chase bank account and also instant credit card payments make it super easy to use. Navy Federal makes you wait a few days for things like that.

Yes. USAA is great for all of the reasons listed above.

I have been with them for 11 years now.

-Excellent customer service
-Extremely low insurance rates and interest rates compared to most other providers
-Annual profit sharing rebates for members

I only wish they would insure motorcycles in the state of NY. Sorry to say they do not.

I'm with everyone else. Been with them since about 2002. Insurance on autos and house, plus credit card. You may be able to get a little cheaper insurance elsewhere, but you won't get the service that USAA provides.

I have been using them for 15 years. Started off with just insurance for my vehicles and now I use them for banking accounts, credit cards and loans. However, something changed around 10 years ago so now they do not insure me directly (now through progressive but USAA as an agent) but it depends on eligibility (state of residence, level of military service, etc).

I recently got them maybe a year ago. I wanted to switch everything to them, I have nfcu for banking and love them. I don't like USAA for banking because there are no branches near me. I use nfcu for banking and I also like nfcu because of 24/7 phone support where as usaa has normal hours. no complaints for insurance though.

I like their banking because they were one of the first to allow you to scan checks rather than go to a branch or ATM. Now you can use an app on you phone to deposit the checks. They also reimburse you for up to $15 per month of ATM fees. We also opened savings accounts for my two kids after they were born (ages 8 & 5) so any money gifts can go directly to their accounts.

With that said, we do have an account at a local credit union for rare time we need a local bank (maybe once per year).

USAA has gone down hill, it used to be very exclusive but now they want more and more people in. Profits I guess.

I had 3 friends of mine that went through USAA claims process and it was a nightmare. So you really do get what you paid for. They contracted a lot of stuff out as well.

I switched OUT from USAA to NFCU and now insured by Allstate. Allstate was a tad bit more expensive, but through the 2 not at fault incidents I had, they were nothing but amazing.

^ I get the experience you've had but no company is perfect. I had two not-at-fault accidents in the last two years and the USAA claims process has been great for me.
