My 2009 335i keeps getting misfire codes P0302 during hard accelleration, strong vibration after this occurs. An engine restart usually removes the vibration. According to other posts to this forum a coil replacement is needed. Looking for a recommendation for what coils to buy, there are so many types. My local BMW mechanic (not a dealer) quoted me $530 for 6 coils.

The N54 requires plugs to be changed every 45K. If your close, you might as well change them too. All the miss firing does put extra strain on your spark plugs.

that's what I did $ 247 I paid for parts did it myself done easy gorgeous a misfire after due to 1 coil not sitting all the way in fix that done

That's an awful price. You can get all 6 for under $200 shipped from a few sources. It would take longer to drive to a shop to have them done than to just DIY. It's literally a 30 minute task.

Unless you think $350 for 30 minutes of work is a good deal.

Are you sure it's a bad coil? The simple test is to move the bad coil from the cyl of the misfire over two cyl's (swap those coil locations) and see if the error code follows the coil. If the error follows the coil... then its a bad coil and you should just change out all 6 since the other 5 are close behind.

The best way to order new coils is to order two coils at a time from AAP and use a $30 off $75 coupon code (do that for 3 orders and you should have 6). The other way to do it is order all six from RockAuto.Com

IF the error does not follow the coil... you might just need new spark plugs. You can get those Bosch plugs for about $13/each and you usually need to change those every 25k miles if Tuned and every 45k miles if stock.

If you change the spark plugs and the problem doesn't follow the coil... then the last thing it could be is needing Carbon/Walnut blasting. This usually is indicated with a car that has higher mileage (60k+) and usually starts with a cyl 5 or cyl 6 misfire (Look to spend about $250 in the forums section to get someone to carbon blast it and install a new gasket). You should also use this opportunity to replace your stock Charge Pipe with an after market charge pipe since the parts are already off (no additional labor needed). Same with getting the BMS OCC installed. You may also want to consider having your Oil Filter Housing Gasket (OFHG) looked at for pools of oil as an indicator to replace the gasket (since a good amount of the labor for tear down is done... you can just do a little more labor and change out that $10 gasket). I would advise to get an oil change done as well if you do the OFHG.

just diy...if you dont know what your doing..it'll take you hr max. once your experienced i would say like 15-20min. I would swap out all your spark plugs first and try to trouble shoot down to which coil by swapping like others have suggested.

You can buy oem bosch coils and spark plugs on amazon for cheap. I would start there.

If you're quick, you can install them in under 20 minutes.

When I had my stock n54 coils replaced under CPO they gave me six Delphi n55 coils as well. I haven't had any issues yet and it's been about 10k miles on them.

Agreed...taking the cowl off is the most time consuming part.

Yes, I did move the coils and the misfire followed the coil I moved, I am also replacing all spark plugs since I am in there anyway

It's not BMW or Bosch branded, but they work. When my car started misfiring, I changed plugs and used these coils and it's been great since. I know a few guys running these and they've had no issues either. Plus it comes with a 10 year warranty if they fail, only cost to you is shipping. I think the warranty itself ms worth it. They shipped super fast too as I was short on time.
