Who has the Birds suspension kit?

Hi,

In the not too distant future i want to renew my shocks and springs (and mounts ect)

Just wondering if anyone has the Birds shocks and springs set and if they are worth the premium over say a B4 set and springs?

its on a E91 325d SE 2010 with 18in wheels. daily driver, not wanting it too low.

i like the idea of them and how they claim they were designed for UK roads between Birds and Bilstien & Eibech (sp)

Cheers

Andy

I've not got the Birds set up but I have the same car, nearly the same year. It's December 2009 325d E91 SE with 18 inch wheels.

I put the Eibach Pro springs on with Bilstein B4 (msport spec) and the ride has been transformed. Much better handling and really settled on the road especially at motorway speeds. No problem with speed bumps at all.

The only other thing I might do is fit Msport anti roll bars. I would have done it but you have to drop the rear subframe frame to fit the rear one.

I've heard good things about the Birds set up however the cost was just too much for me.

Hope this helps!

That’s good to hear thanks
Yeah I can see there being a big differnace with the roll bars, I noticed a differnace when I replaced my worn front roll bar bushes, goes to show small changes in that item are quickly noticeable!

E92 335d Birds B3

Hi all,
I've got the Birds B3 dynamic suspension package fitted complete with Quaife LSD. I'm running 19" 230 alloys with non-runflats. It completely transformed the car. The steering is more direct and the car crashes and bangs less over our pot holed roads. It is still quite a stiff ride. I ensured that OE bushes were fitted instead of upgraded powerflex to have the 'magic carpet ' effect of a standard rubber item which I think was a good choice. All upgrades, advice and project managing was done by Neil Yates and his team at Rally Prep in St Column Major Cornwall. First class!!

Also worth considering the Ohins R&T set up. Before I chose Ohlins, I had a ride in a 335i with the Birds kit and as Jacktar says, the ride was still too stiff for me. The Ohlins is really compliant, yet also improves the handling, totally eliminating dive and squat on acceleration and braking, and reducing roll.

i'll have a look at it, i know you get what you pay for with suspension but that might be a stretch too far but you never know...

i i was recently thinking about going poly bushes when i do replace any worn items but think i'll stay with rubber, i don't like road noise.....

I would as I like the feedback and direct steering. The LSD is something else and if I was short on funds I'd do the LSD before the suspension mind. I'm glad you saw Rally Prep at Watergate. Neil is definitely worth a chat to as he specialises in rally development and he'll almost definitely have a greater experience including setup and camber adjustment. He advised me not to go to polybush. Neil is also licensed for the XHP gearbox software which transformed my auto box.

Oh wow i didn't realise there was a XHP place local! could you PM what they charge? i only have apple phones.... not sure its worth buying an android phone and app just for that but may.

interesting on the LSD.... i'm chasing a knock at the minute and hopefully its just top mount, but if its shock i'll have to replace those now, but if i can hold off.... maybe LSD then....
