IBS e92 335i

Long time lurker, first time poster here!

This forum has helped me out a number of times and im hoping you guys can come through yet again! Even though this is probably a really stupid question...

Alright so i was working on my car today for about 4 hrs. I had the car doors open just to get some air in there and didnt notice the interior lights were on (stupid, i know). So after i was done, i went to go turn the car on and drivers seat had barely any power, so i thought ruh roh, batterys dying. Shoved key in ignition quickly and tried turning her on, there was a click, i got power to everything, could hear the fuel pump, but car would not crank. Shortly after that, the abs light and dsc light came on. So i knew battery wasnt dead, did some research on here and it could possibly be the IBS sensor, so i look in the trunk and what do you know, the blue wire for the IBS is disconnected. Why? Beats me...

Anyways, i cant figure out where the hell the blue connector for the IBS in top right corner of picture, connects to. I think this may be my culprit. I thought it connected to the other circled one, but it doesnt. PLEASE HELPPP

The connector is for shipping only its for a deep sleep mode
while shipping.(connector lower left)
Most likely you depleted a marginal battery by leaving the door
open and working around your car with the fob in the pocket.
Put it on a trickle charger over night.

There is a glass eye on the battery I believe its under the cross brace that gives you and indirect battery indication.

car draws .5 amps when awake and you don't have anything else on . Looks like that's and original battery
if you have more than 6 years on it you should change
it if you don't want to be stranded.
Do not take to places like autozone to change
Do not allow battery back up to be used while changing.
Do not close trunk with battery out . (Electric trunk lock)

Look up the many threads on battery problems accross the net and in the general section where this should be posted.

Could my IBS be bad? Hence the 2E8E code? Should i try disconnecting it and starting car? I went downstairs a few mins ago and i could actually move the drivers seat back without it like "stalling". Maybe the battery just died. It is 35 degrees here today. Im gonna have to jump it tomorrow unfortunately i dont have a charger.

My battery is only a year old maybe a year and a half thats why im baffled. My bad about the post in the wrong section! First time posting, i saw electrical and thought this would be the best place. Thanks for the heads up though

What where you installing ?
I would look at the battery condition first.
And make sure it has a full charge as the electronics in the
car don't like low voltage and current .
If you were installing something you might want to consider
backing out of the install.
Jumping is not a good idea you need to get a full charge on the battery to see if things come back to normal first.

I was playing with my coilovers. Nothing electrical or mechanical. Did an oil change before that and car started right up. Last week i got the battery tested and it was at 14v. At term. 87 it was 14.93v at first fault, and 11.78v at last fault. Havent gotten it tested as of 8 days ago. The 2E8E code was also present then.

Impossible for a battery to be over 13 volts with a surface charge.
and 12.6 normally anything with 14 volts or more is the alternator
voltage.
If you put in on charger and your seats and lights start to act
normaly its a pretty good indicator that things are current limited due to not enough power from the battery . The IBS
turns things off to conserve power. Could be your IBS is bad to
you unplug the power to it but I doubt is will make a difference.

Thats the thing, i havent charged it all. Its been sitting since earlier. I just happened to move the seat back and it did so smoothly. I then tried starting her but same thing as earlier, fuel, click, no start, abs dsc light and if i remember correctly the tps light was on but dont quote me on the tps.

Why could ISTA pull the voltage from the alternator and suggest it as the ISB reading? Is bad ISB the culprit for this?

When you turned off the lights an let the car sleep the battery
recovered a little as it wasn't under load anymore.
That's why your seats started working a little better .
If you put a charger on and they get even better it indicates
that the battery is depleted or bad.
If you have ista d it should indicate a course of action to fix your troubles. If the motor is running you are measuring the alternator voltage. Since the battery is in parallel with the alternator its impossible to measure the battery voltage
at the same time as the alternator does matter if you do it
with a voltmeter or ista does it.

The common sense solution is you if the car was awake for 4 hours is you depleted that battery . That would be the thing to check first. YOu can get all kinds of false indications with a low battery as the electronics don't like it .

The BSD cable on the upper right in your picture should be
plugged into something for the IBS to function its the way the IBS communicates with the DME.
I would search around the battery area to find that connection .
DME can't read the IBS without that connection.
The one on the other side is the shipping connection.

Figured it out. The blue plug that was disconnected (bit serial data) had the other end chopped off, where its suppose to plug into. Someone then tried mickey mousing the 2 wires that were chopped off(green and grey, or white if im not mistaken) to right behind the BSD connector....

I feel like i may know who did this but i dont think its even worth the hassle to do or say anything as i can get just the connector and wires from the dealer for less than 10 bucks. Bmw doesnt usually sell just these pieces alone, only in conjunction with other parts such as whole IBS/negative terminal maybe even harness if this wire comes from DME (since you said the BSD is how the IBS communicates with the DME) but im there so often buying parts that they just sell me whatever little piece i need.

Yeah I got curious and went out and looked at mine and
it was unplugged.(plugged it in) But there is another small blue connector on
mine coming out near where the big red cable starts to curve down.
I took a picture but it was pretty bad.
There are some connector links here somewhere.

So the wire on the bottom in your picture comes from the IBS, and the one on top "comes from the big red wire" as you mentioned. I am missing the top blue connector!!!!! Not the one that comes from IBS, the other blue one that it plugs into, and i cant find it on real oem for the life of me!!! helppppp

Is it number 1 or number 2 in the picture?? Or is that even it..? Its pouring outside so i cant really go look. Already bought a battery tender plus i just want to order the part and get it over with instead of test fitting connectors. I already bought the wrong one today

Its neither 1 or 2. I need the blue end that plugs into 1 or 2. Looks like 2 though. IBS has 3 holes??

I checked its 3 holes. Do you happen to know a part # for the plug that connects to that? With the 2 wires(green and grey)?? My brain hurts from searching real oem over and over and i cant find !@%#.

You mind checking yours and see if theres a part number on it or something? I would also need to know where the wires go on the terminal im looking for. i.e: green to 1 and grey to 3. Any help from anyone is appreciated im going nuts over here
