in my case the rod was moving side to side. I was getting the rattling noise when just revving the car and while the car is revving they tried to keep the rod from moving side to side and they notice the noise was much better so they took a chance knowing if it did not fix the issue they would not charge me. I was thinking it would just make it a bit better, but I was wrong it eliminated the noise completely.

I think they are two types of waste-gate rattle noise.
I believe one is when cruising around and holding the car in gear, which can be fixed by changing the length on the waste gate rod. the other waste gate issue is when just revving the engine and on de-acceleration you hear an annoying loud rattle, which I was able to fix by putting an e-clip in place. |

What about the idle? My car rattles on idle, on letting off the gas and occasionally while cruising. I don't even think I want new Turbos I hate how they do everything piece meal. Just fix the damn problem with new design or something. I may have no choice but to get upgraded Turbos now. I just get tired of the car being a frequent flier to the dealer and seating there for days on end only for the issues to re-appear later. I think this is almost as bad as the HPFP screw up.

I am not talking of the diesel like pinging, I know thats the injectors, I am talking of the loose cans type noise. Believe me you will know it when you hear it. There are a few posts on here with the idle rattle if you search.

Nice OP. I need to try this to see if it works. My 135i also has a nasty rattle (worse than my 335i), so I went out and bought a 2nd PROCede which has a setting to adjust the wastegates (keep it partially/fully open). The rattle is now gone for me.
Not a true solution, but as long as the rattle is masked, it's ok. The 135i needed a tune anyways

Quick question. If the car is rattling on start up and at idle if its just on and not even having the foot on the gas, could it still be the wategate arm on the turbos?
