Fog Lights Coding

Hi,

I have E90 320i ’05 without front fog lights and no pre-wired at all. Now I already wired it up to my FRM (https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1535659). The problem is when I press the front fog lights button, the fog lights won't turn on. But when I use activate menu in INPA and use "turn front fog lights" function, it works! So I think I wired it correctly but maybe the FRM need to be code in order to turn the fog lights on by the switch? Anyone know how?

PS. I don't have and don't know how to use NCS Expert, do I require it? I only have INPA and Carly. If I can use just two of them that would be great!

Thanks in advance!

The answer to your issue is as simple as "taster nebelscheinwerfer" (Fog Light Push Button ;-)

Using INPA, connect to FRM, select F5 (Status) | F3 (Taster/PushButton) and you will see our friend "taster nebelscheinwerfer" in the digital button readout. The circle for that Fog Light Button should darken when the button is pushed. If NOT, then you do NOT have the switch S8 correctly wired to the FRM.

If you can use Activations/Steuern (F6) in INPA to turn on the new fog lights (both of them ;-) then the "Output" part of the circuit (from the FRM to the lights -- E26 & E27 in the TIS Schematic) is OK.

However, if the fog light button does NOT light the lamps, then the INPUT side of the circuit is NOT wired correctly. That is the wiring between the FRM and the SWITCH. If you are NOT familiar with TIS circuit diagrams, go to this site and enter the last 7 of your VIN to get the best info for your model:
https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/

It appears that the fog light wiring for all 320i models prior to 2008/09 is the same; here is the circuit diagram for those models (before September 2008):
https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...lights/i7dvOwH

If pins 5, 7, 9 & 11 of Connector X10164 of the Light Switch Unit (S8) are correctly connected to pins 23, 15, 14, & 5 respectively of Connector X14259 of the FRM, then the "taster nebelscheinwerfer" circle should darken when the button is pressed.

The TIS circuit diagrams are interactive, and you can get more info on any component by clicking on its BLUE ID#. For example, here are the "Connector Views" for Connector X10164 (Switch S8) and Connector X14259 (FRM):
https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...i-lim/HRLhOGBh
https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...i-lim/CTNXcGTE

Please let us know how that works,
George

I checked the status for push button and yes it's dark when I pushed the button (just once when I push, it's not always dark until I push it again, is that the way it should be?) So this should means that my light switch is OK right? But it still doesn't light the lamp.

You need to modify your VO (add $520) and default code your FRM.

Ah, I see! So which tool should I use ESYS or NCSExpert? and FRM is the only ECU that need to be coded, I don't need to do anything with CAS right?

NCS, as esys is for F series. Only the FRM needs to be coded, CAS does not need to be coded.

However, the updated VO needs to be written to CAS & FRM.

I will try that and give you an update later, Thanks!

I followed this exact guide, just want to add a bit more clarity. FSW_PSW.MAN needs to be empty. and once the fog light VO are added, SG_CODIREN needs to be ran

I want to do the opposite, remove my fog lights because I don't have them anymore. So removing them from the VA/VO list is not so difficult but I don't know on what to click/choose to get that info (=modified VA/VO list) back to the car

You need to run FA_Write on CAS and FRM
