328i vs 335i

Hi there,

I'm beginning to look around for a BMW, but one of my problems is I don't know which I would rather have..

A newer 328i or a couple years older 335i? I could probably get around a 2011 328i, and either a 2009 or 2010 335i and I'm just very confused with which I would rather have, so I was hoping for some opinions.

I know I want a coupe, automatic transmission, and sport and premium packages for sure! If I could somehow find a M sport package life would be great but I think those are a little out of my price range. I was wondering what you guys' opinions were between the two...

Thanks!!

Will 255 hp suit you or do you need 300? That is the question you need to answer yourself.

Drive both and see what you like better, it was a no brainer for me.

It all depends on your reasoning for the car. 335 is obviously faster than the 328 but costs more to maintain. If you get a 2011+ car it is LCI/facelift compared to 2010 and under. The LCI cars have quite a few subtle updates. So if you're purely going for cosmetics then I would go with the 328 2011+. If you're about performance then obviously the older 335.

Drive them both and make your decision. This thread is going to blow up with BS with everyone with a 328i saying the 335i isn't reliable and people with 335i's defending themselves.

I've never had a problem with 2 335i's I've owned, although I know how to turn a wrench. My buddies 328i gauge cluster looks like a Christmas tree with all the lights so take that with a grain of salt.

Why not, not everyone likes to drive manual.

Keep in mind some or all years of 328 have shitty GM tranny whereas 335 comes with ZF

It's about power. 328 is slower than a 335. That's it. Looks the same and no one will know a difference unless they read the badge on the back. If you want a bmw just to have a bmw then go with a 328 to save some cash. If you want a car that's faster then go with a 335.

I just bought my first BMW........335 no question.

IMHO, the joy of driving can truly be felt with the perfect balance of luxury, sportiness, and power.

Get the 335, you'll thank me later.

In terms of maintenance what is more likely to go wrong with the 35 versus the 28?

Thanks! I'll make sure to drive them both before I buy for sure. But you're advising me to make my choice off of that and not the thought of "Oh 335's are more likely to have maintenance troubles" correct?

So your car has the LCI headlights and tails? Assuming you have a coupe since OP is wanting a coupe.

LCI stands for life cycle impulse. So the LCI has updated headlights which include the bright angel eyes. The taillights are also updated and make the car look much newer in my opinion. There are other things as well, just do a search on differences between LCI and pre-lci.

You can usually tell it's a 328i based on the single dual-tip exhaust.
