They will fit as long as the bolt pattern is 5x120 the correct offset for 18x8 and 18x9 fitment on those wheels is et35. If your considering ordering them online I'd recommend **********s http://www.**********s.com/Avant-Garde-310-Wheels-Hyper-Silver-BMW.htm
I'm ordering my wheels from them on Monday their customer service is great.

They're giving you the incorrect information. As the largest stocking distributor and official retail distributor of Avant Garde wheels, I can tell you that the Avant Grade M310 in 18" will definitely work perfectly on your car. The setup that is recommend is the 18x8.0 ET35 with a 225/40/18 up front and the 18x9.0 ET38 with a 255/35/18 in the rear. I'll go ahead and shoot you over a PM with more details!

What are the benefits of a staggered setup as opposed to a square setup?

For the most part, staggered setups will allow for you to run a bigger size tire in the rear. What that means is that you're going to have more traction. Another benefit of course is that the wider wheel in the rear will give the car a more aggressive and sportier look for aesthetic reasons
