Home Gym

Hi Folks,

recently stopped going to the gym but need to get back into it again! Will hopefully be moving in with the other half soon and we agreed i can kit out the garage with gym gear

Weve got a cross trainer already, i have a bike too for going around the block, and also its pretty quiet round here so i can jog without being humiliated so cardio stuff is pretty much sorted

so for any other weight lifters on here where is the best place for buying free weights, barbells, dumbells, benches etc? Ive already got some small free weights but it wont take long for them to be no good for certain moves!

I have a full blown gym at home and found my local place was the most cost effective .. I'll dig up some info tomorrow and send your way.. They also deliver I believe.

I would recommend a gym membership over a home gym unless you are certain you will keep at it. You could quite easily end up with a garage full of junk 2 months down the line.

If I was going to do something similar I would start with a power rack, 150kg of plates, a good solid bench, an olympic bar and an EZ curl bar.
With that you can work all the major muscle groups.

Best place to pick all that up is likely local classifieds (lots of people buy this stuff at full price, never use it and are pretty much willing to give it away) or a gym that's doing a refurb.

The issue with a home gym is you will very quickly find yourself bored of doing the same workouts. It's also really hard to workout around an injury without the isolation that machines provide.

Car boot sales is where its at. Loads of people buy this stuff with good intentions, 6 months later its on the car boot stalls cheap as chips.

bought plenty of stuff from this outfit - bit heavy duty and not sure how they fare pricewise but great durable gear!! My mate recently bought an ex demo treadmill from them at a great price...

www.fitness-superstore.co.uk

would defo recomend classifieds (even ebay) for weights and bars etc, as likely to be some bargain arounds!

This, unless you train with current and ex world powerlifting champions, including the former being my dad (for his age and weight bracket, of course).

I had a all singing, all dancing York multi gym. Started out using it every day, ended up using it to hang the washing off! We have a state of the art gym at work so use that now [ although get pissed off when Seb is in there as he is fit as a flea!]

Thats bargain. Which kind of bar is it? one which the end screw out and fit snugly between a door way?
