I want to show my idea to build a custom fit subwoofer box for E90. Eventually this box appeared to be too small for my woofer element and I decided to discard this and build a separate box instead, but you can get the idea..

There is a good space for a small subwoofer under the trunk floor. You can use the felting as a mold for glass fiber work.

Here's the step-by-step:
1. Cover the felt box with aluminium foil
2. Laminate one layer of glass fiber on the covered felt and let the resin dry
3. Remove the original box from the box
4. Remove most of the aluminium foil
5. Laminate some plywood or chipboard to inner walls of the box
6. Cut the excess glassfiber and make a frame for the woofer and attach it to the box
7. Finish the box with felting and filling

i almost did this about 2 years back, was told that the air the sub needs will not be even close to how much that small space has! let me know how it goes!!

Well, it's quite close even for my 10" woofer (only couple liters too small, according to the woofer's specs). For 8" you can probably get enought room easily.

Anyway, as told, I decided to discard this because this space was too small for a 10" woofer.

I´m interested in boosting my bass a little bit and one option would be similar build than in this DIY guide. I'd like to inspect possibilities to do this with 8" subwoofer with closed box. I´m not looking for loads of pressure or depth so closed box should be good enough.

What is the volume of that space? Approximately in litres.

This info would help me a lot.

Its made for 17Liters sealed box.

BSW makes a similar enclosure. They don't release the specs on their home driver, however it is pretty decent. It keeps up with the standard (hifi in europe) sound system, but it is no match for an amped system.
I eventually got rid of it for 2 custom corner enclosures fitted with 12'' subs.

I know this is an old post but I am trying to figure out how you bonded or attached the wood top to the fiberglass casing, as well as where did you put your binding posts. Also, did you make a template with cardboard.

I glued the wood to fiberglass. Fastened it with some screws in the lower mdf pieces (look at the pictures).

I'm looking at doing the same thing in my E90 also...
BUT, I have a 12w3 I'd like to reuse. I know it's not a large enough enclosure, but am wondering how much of a difference would I really hear between a 12" and a 10" in the same enclosure.

I would assume a 12" without sufficient space will still be a huge improvement over stock (base stereo at that), but how much better (if at all) would a 10" sound (assuming it's a 10w3 for comparisons sake)?
