Engine service soon lights

I have 2700 miles on my e90. The engine service lights have come on twice. I took it to the dealer the first time to get it fixed. The lights came back on a couple weeks later. Does anybody else have this software problem?

I had the same problem at about 1500miles. A pump at the gas tank, which is checking the if it is leaking, was defect and had to be replaced. The dealer had at that time to contact BMW NA to find the problem! At least in my case it was not just a software problem.

I had this same exact problem with my car a few weeks back.

I called BMW and they said it is most likely refueling with the car running. I might have done this a few days prior, but really don't remember.

They said to wait a week and if it is still there, make an appt for service.

After about 5 days it went out for a few hours. Came back on shortly after, stayed for a few days.

2 days ago the light went out and has been out ever since. Performance of the car has not changed at all during this entire thing.

I just had that happen to me today. My car 8,800 Miles already. Kind of annoying but the dealer was real good. They wanted me to take it in today but couldn't. Hopefully it isn't something major.

Sure enough after about a week or so of the light being off, it turned on again for about a day. Next morning when I started the car the light was off.

I know I have definitely not left the engine running while refueling since this whole thing started ...

No noticeable difference in the car with the light on or off ...

I'm going to take it to the dealer when I have a bit of time.

Let me know what your dealer tells you.

Service Engine Soon light came on after merging onto the interstate in DS mode and driving on the freeway for about five miles (8,000 miles). Light stayed on for 2 days. Error code is captured even when the light goes off so the dealer determined it was a bad oxygen sensor. The E90 has several oxygen sensosrs. No problem to replace the sensor but the part took 2 days to come in.
