Which Year of the E92 335i has the least problems? 2007, 2008, 2009
Hey Everyone,
Need some feedback, My cousin wants to pick up an E92 335i. We've been going through auctions and noticed that a good majority of the 2008 335i e90s and e92s are stated, "LEMON-LAW Buybacks" I've noticed this before with the 2007s, but I would see very few put in this category. (this was back in 09). However, now I see a lot of the 2008s with the "Lemon-law buyback" Which Year, do you guys recommend for being most reliable? He can only afford a Pre-owned 335i from 07-09, wish He could have gotten the new one. Thanks |

Meh, all a crap shoot imo. Don't think one year is more reliable than another. Just make sure it's CPO or has warranty left.
Even the new N55 engine's HPFP is failing: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=433273

I don't understand why anyone would want a x35 out of full warranty with all of the ongoing fuel pump issues. Sure, the HPFP is covered to 100k, but not the other components that can be affected.
Although my vehicle is running fine now, it was 3 PITA weeks getting it fixed, there's no way I would buy another x35 right now (would consider an M3 though). |

Consumer Reports gave the 335 a full black circle for every year it came out. I would never buy a used 335 without the CPO label on it.

As you can tell, there is no clear data to answer your question with. Logic would dictate that the more recent build ('09) would have less issues than the earlier models as BMW's engineers have had more time to work out the kinks in the engine. Keep in mind that pumps will fail until this model line runs it's course. The question is , has the failure rate returned to what would be a normally acceptable rate? In fact, we really don't know what rates the pumps have been failing at. It certainly appears to have been a high rate (10% or more?) but there is no real data on this and there probably won't be for a few more years. Meantime I think it's important to be aware of a)the potential issues with these cars (pumps etc) and b) be aware that the internet (sad as it is) seems to be more of a place that people come together to complain than to rejoice.

the E90 328xi 2008 got Excellent reviews by consumer reports, one of the main reasons I purchased the non turbo version. My next play car will be the super charged CTS-V which has been rated the fasted production sedan on the planet!

I see the lemon-law buybacks as a value opportunity. Replace a few HPFPs, so what? On the other hand I would avoid 335s with evidence of piggybacks.

If he can afford a 2009, go with that year. Most of the issues of fuel injectors, turbos/wastegates/engine management systems were solved by then. 2008/2009/2010 all have the crap -881 HPFP, so there is no way to get around that issue until the -933 HDP is installed.

Yeah I have to agree with that, the newest you can afford and make sure to check in car fax in service date. You can have a whole year of added or subtracted warranty depending when model year was made and put into service.
