i already checked with the dmv. they said that as long there is a vin number to match the engine and transmission, it will be fine. plus... they will not find out because you dont need to smog your vehicle for another 3 years or so. but anyways, they told me it is ok. i checked before deciding to go this route

But if the car is totaled you will not get a new N54 motor. (unless you tell them, and then your insurance will go up)

for some people, yes if they want a used 335i... for the person who likes to do things out of the box, this is the way to go. 10k is not that much for the engine and tranny. the n54 is pure joy

Yeah, I'd love to see the look on anyone from the service dept when you tell them you had HPFP failure. First just "Ok, no problem." Then they see the 328 and go "hahaha," and turn smug, as they assume you have no idea what you're talking about. Then they see your setup and it turns to shock. Next they aren't sure if they will work on it in or out of warranty (out), because if they didn't sell and install the part most dealers don't want to work on something at all...

Good times.

Seriously though, I wonder how the exhaust system would need to be reworked/what other systems would have to be changed. I would assume the ECU would need to be reprogrammed as well. I guess if you're going to spend 10 grand on the engine, money isn't a huge issue. Just don't see it happening when switching to a used 335i is much cheaper and less hassle. If the engine were 5 grand I could see more jumping at it, but no doubt it is worth more than that. A rough position to be in. Any posts from anyone that has actually done that engine swap?

I do not think it will be under warranty. An after market warranty would work cause they wouldn't even know you put the engine in the hpfp thing would be funny, i agree. This engine has never had any problems though. As for the ecu, I might just give it to you for the 10k, I need to see if the new engine will be able to work with it. I am honestly not at this stage in the project so I am not 100% sure. I know I will be selling the engine, we will remove it once the car get back from the body shop. The car will have a new paint job

Someone should jump on this though, put it in their project car
