Now, in this SIB, July, it specifically says: "All issues relating to the last-minute appeal have been resolved and the new effective date of the settlement is July 11, 2012. The court-approved settlement provides the following relief to the Settlement Class Members’ vehicles listed above." So I guess both the defendents and the plantiffs have unanimously reached a settlement that is fair and BMW will provide "relief" starting after July 11, 2012. I don't know if BMW can back out now. This is a court-mandated settlement. So as you guys may not know, this specific warranty extension is a direct result of this lawsuit. It doesn't seem to be related to the "extra" 7 year/70k California emissions warranty for turbos for California residents. The good news is, this applies to all 50-states. The bad news is the Canadians and Aussies are screwed on this. You're also screwed if you got the N55. Also, you are probably screwed on the 335iS even though it has a N54, but it was not listed as a qualified vehicle. |

Yeah, so because of this issue, I don't really see a point in dropping $3000 bucks on an extended warranty. It's better to take your chances on this one. Turbos are really the only high cost of the car anyways.
The second most expensive item are probably the injectors but those are $120-150 a piece on Tisher. Like I said, it's not likely all six injectors would fail at the same time. And injectors seem to hold up quite well up to 100K miles without issues. The early build injectors had major issues. HPFP issues also seem to be history. |

It says, "A slight rattle noise is considered normal operation of the mechanical waste gate and is not a failure. No repair should be attempted for this complaint." Mine sounds like a rattlebucket under the hood, I wonder if they will fix it. Rattles on acceleration and deceleration.

This was settled upon in US Dist Court NorCal SF back in April. No idea why BMWNA has been dicking around with this. Did your BMW dealer recommend the replacement of the front turbo to fix the wastegate rattle? If so, print the attached SIB, bring it to them and asked to be reimbursed. If they won't, ask them to contact BMWNA or contact them yourself.

Was asking one posters opinion not creating a thread, so technically no search suggestion warranted. But yes good news indeed. : |

You guys all know that the standard emissions warranty is 7 years / 70,000 miles right?
this is only a 1 year / 12k mile increase |

I don't see how they could not apply it to all of North America. It's the same car with same parts. They did it for the HPFPs

The problem has to be determined to be caused by the wastegates. I wouldn't make a determination on whether or not to get an extended warranty based on the SIB.
Anybody who has owned their car from new knows, that BMWNA gets into semantics when it comes to determining coverage, and that's with a full factory warranty. Who wants to get into whether or not their turbo needs replacement due to a wastegate, or something else? the person with a problem just wants it replaced period. my .02..... |

CPO covers drivetrain and other components. Look at the docs for exactly what, but engine, tranny, injectors, etc. are covered. A few of my injectors were replaced under CPO.
Also if you have a CPO car, DO NOT BUY THE EXTENDED MAINT!!!! It is a gross waste of cash. I bought it and since you are stuck with 15K oil changes and for CPO they make sure the brakes are good. The chances are that you will never go through the $2K that the maint costs. You are better off putting the $2K in the bank and paying for it out of pocket. IMHO. THis is from a gu who has forked over the $2K and probably will never see a decent turn. |
