I'd certainly try that first as it's the easiest fix. But there's also a function in the FRM where a bad light will run up a tally of "shorts" and after that tally gets to a certain point, you need to reset the short counter before a bulb error will go away. I discovered this when I kept getting bulb out errors even though I could tell that the bulb was in fact good.

Someone who's more conversant in coding and the various modules than I am can probably explain and offer more insight. I was able to ultimately reset the module and take care of this myself through software.

OK, that's the FRM problem associated with lights... the resetting of the counter so to speak. I'm presuming I'll need that, so will swap the bulbs and simply ignore if necessary!

It's official, I have some work ahead of me! VCG, OFHG, and radiator/hoses/stat/pump.
But I think that'll be it for the most part.
Ha, that's funny...

Side of the valve cover:

The supposedly in good condition, but obviously not in good condition OFHG:

And the failing radiator that I honestly wasn't expecting:

StradaRedlands - congrats (on "new" project)

If time comes for you to get 4th E91 and it will be from SF-area - let me know, I can go check it out for you in person (anywhere in SF-Sacramento-Tahoe) corridor.

Should you need tail lights - consider euro version.
There are couple UK BMW dealers that have new, factory set on ebay.
It is cheaper than new or used US version, and IMO looks better.
I actually made a small net profit after selling my US 10y+ factory ones

Not a basic build - CA, NAV, PDC, ski bag, etc - very nice!

2009 E91 is the only LCI that had a net behind front seat.
I actually swapped one into my 2011 E90

Thank you, and noted! I almost put out the call on this one, but felt it was pretty straightforward at the price point

And yeah, those flappers were always broken on my other E91s. I replaced one, and just ignored the other!

Could you add a link for an example? I haven't seen them before, but am intrigued! A lot of work before I can really commit to the "made it fancy" fun part. I did buy a sport steering wheel though... hopefully plug and play with the heating feature!

Gotta' get the trans and brake fluid changed on the X5, then I can move it out of the way on starting focuing on the blue bomber!

Take the CIC HDD out and make a backup (just dd entire drive block device to a file)

The drive will fail one day.
Last partition has certificates registered to your CIC unit that you do not want to loose.
I failed to backup my E70 CIC HDD - the recovery was very painful and time consuming

A CF adapter with decent CF card will make a solid upgrade:

OK, you stumped me on this one... this is approaching scary land for me. First I've heard of it, is this a pretty good guide? https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1426773
I can swap OFHG and radiators all day, but I hate stuff like this...

Looking at your valve cover, it may just be dirty from people spilling oil when pouring it in. I too thought I needed to do the valve cover gasket. I cleaned and flipped the seal on the oil cap and now everything has stayed clean for 6 months
Maybe VCC are getting replaced due to leaky oil caps?.

Yes, I noticed a lot of it looks to be coming down from the top... I'll clean it well and monitor, but I have a bad feeling about the 17 year old VCG, never mind the VC itself!

One of the first things I did when I got the car. Except I got OE Magneti Marelli with rear amber signals.

The GM transmission was not super smooth to begin with. I noticed it likes to hold the gears in particular 1 to 2 shifts when the trans fluid is not warmed up yet. Then it seems to get better as the car warms up.

This was one of the first things I did to mine back around 2011... but I got them from a car recycler in German along with euro light switch (rear foglights) and a few other goodies.... https://www.schmiedmann.com/

TIP... before attempting to put washer tank/pumps back in the fender... pull the side turn/marker light out of the fender. Makes it so much easier to get the tank back in correctly. You don't even have to disconnect the light... just let it dangle.

From my having to replace the main hose that you see, I'm thinking it's the driver side (left) top of the radiator and that crack has been peculating a long time.
