'Sun' spotlamp

Hi all,

I see most of the pro detailers here use hand-held halogen 'sun' spotlights to spot paint defects. I'm thinking of picking one up, so I wondered if anyone had any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

You're referring to either the Brinkmann, or the 3m Sun Gun. While they are good for finding paint defects, swirls, etc. Their (3m at least) primary job is to be color correct so that a painter can properly match his spray out panels to the color on the car to make sure he has found the right formula to match the new painted panels (or blended panels) to the rest of the car. The 3m is about $300. You can see swirls with just about any bright point light source.

Well those sunguns - they basically have a High CRI ( color rendition index) to match the oem sunlight well.

A good quality LED flaslight will do the same because LED's can almost match the color on sunlight.
