Damage to suspension ?
Hi Guys
Sorry for the stupid question : I was driving last night on a dark road, stopped at a red light, and when started to go again, my left front wheel fell into a big crack in the road ( Unfortunately did not see it, I try to avoid these as much as I can), The car really shook, and there was a significant bang, yet when I stopeed to check everything seemed OK. the steering is stable and the iDrive declares all systems are OK. I feel though that the drive is not as smooth and is a little more bumpy . Does this make sense or is it may imagination ? could I have broken something that needs to be checked ? Thanks BP |

its likely your imagination. others have posted how alignment stays the same even through northeast winters with huge pothole hits. if the car starts to put on a flat road or you get weird vibrations then take it in other wise its all good

You would feel a bent front wheel. the steering wheel would start to shake on you about 55-65mph. And you would probably notice your tire on that wheel start to bubble a little also. Check air pressure while your at it...

I will be checking both rims tonight ( yep, still working..) when i get back home, and will let you know.
I drove the car yesterday at 50-60mph and there were no vibrations or anything unusual. I thought maybe the steering wheel wants to pull to the right but than it was not a flat road so it was hard to tell. If I find anything wrong I will post some photos.. Thanks all BP |

stop worrying about it. if you messed up the alignment or bent a wheel or lost a wheel wait it would come through with a very obvious pull since our cars don't have any free play when the wheel is centered, or there would be some vibrations through the steering wheel. its tempting to obsess when you love your car (believe me i know) but at some point you have to tell yourself its all good and move on

I checked the rims, they are fine both sides. I will take your advice and let things go,I am thinking there is some pull to the right, not sure though, I'll see what happens and keep you guys posted !

IS it normal for the wheel to have about a 1/4" play when your parked and the engine is running? It seems tight but I can here a small creaking noise under the dash when I gently turn side to side, and it moves about 1/4" b4 the wheels start to move. Is that just the steering system play?
