Installing a used DME
So long story short, my DME got water in the connectors, looks like it shorted out some stuff. So I scored a good price on a used DME, both are MSD-80. Best I could find was that I need to change the vin in the DME, likely via winkfp.
Can anyone confirm this is all that's necessary? Possibly have a DIY? (All I could find is info on swapping MSD-81.) Second, what are the benefits of updating the software? And are those benefits moot if I flash MHD? |

You won't be able to program the used dme with your software and cable. The DME will need to have the ISN changed to match your CAS or if your old DME is still responsive then it can be cloned to your new one.
The tools required for this are pretty pricey so it's something I wouldn't recommend doing as a DIY. If you're in socal I recommend bimecu.com |

for cloning you have to be able to read eeprom and flash in order to be able to write to another one. or you have 2 identical ecus then it is enough to adjust the ISN. You can't do that with normal tools.

Thanks for the follow up. It appears that it was in a state that is "clone-able." I should have it on Wednesday
