!x*&%!%!%!%!%!% hit and run!

For the second time in two years, I got hit by a hit and run driver while parked a couple of blocks from my house. I walked out this morning and found this:

Looks like someone mangled the car while trying to parallel park. Last time this happened, my beloved Saab 9-5 got written off by the insurance company, but the entire front end was mangled. Im hoping I will have a better time here, especially given the crazy prices in the used car market.

Sorry to see, I was a victim four weeks ago in my own driveway and the guy was pulling out and hitting the gas as I was coming out of the house. I hope that someone got a license plate and you get it repaired.

That was my presumption. Front door should be easy to replace, maybe even in the same color. Rear door... There's going to be some cost to replace that one (Probably still cheaper than repair???).

Sucks :-/

Tough one parking on city streets. Kinda reminds me of parking at dorms years ago, you never knew what drunk would crash into your car. Hope you are able to get it fixed and insurance doesn't brand the title.

So sorry man! And what kind of loser could even look at their sorry-assed face in the mirror after trashing somebody else’s obviously well cared for property? I’ll never understand that mentality...

Hey smatanovic I don't know where you're located, but my local wrecker has an Arktis Metallic E91 with good doors: https://www.lkqpickyourpart.com/inve...006-bmw-325xi/

And you get the cool //M stripes on the rocker while you're at it!

Yea, that door is toast.
The front door shouldn’t be that hard to find in the same color, as you said.
Rear doors are available but will need some luck to find the same color as there aren’t many e91s out there. Side skirts are the same.

Initial estimate, even using a salvage door, is $4k. They also suspect damage to the B pillar because of how hard the door was hit. I feel like ins co will total the car.

Oh man. I know it probably isn't going to happen, but in criminal investigations, forensics experts can analyze the paint from the other car and match it to a specific make/model. IIRC they can use it as evidence by taking a paint sample from the suspect car and matching them. That sucks and I hope it isn't totaled.

Smatanovic, are you talking US dollars, as someone is really ripping you off, maybe to total the car and resell it for a good profit.

First, your vehicle is obviously driveable, correct? For now, keep driving.

Second, from your pictures, the doors probably open and close, correct?

I don't know where you are, but I'd certainly find another body shop.

Finally, whatever repair you finally get, and as I assume the rest of your car is not 'perfect', and to save money, you don't need the 100% solution!

Sorry, I forgot, but I doubt if the 'B' pillars are really damaged, especially if the doors open and close properly.

The lower right part of the rear door looks to be damaged right up against the door hinge.

Any small bend or crease on the B pillar, from that door hinge impact will total the car.

$4k estimate seems appropriate for a big shop.

You can certainly get it done cheaper.
If they total the car, keep it and repair it somewhere else.
