seat map sensor malfunction update!

Hey guys, about a year ago, my car threw an error light saying my airbag sensor was malfunctioning. After going on the forums, i noticed it was a common on the 2006-2007 models.

So i called my dealership asking to get it covered even though i was OUT of warranty. They refused. So i was stuck with a $1000 repair.

I researched more on this forum and found others who have found some recall information regarding this issue. Unfortunately due to some bullsh*t, this is vin specific. As in if your car's VIn was not included on this recall, you're sorry out of luck.

I then called my dealership to see if i can convince them the liability it creates when driving w/ a faulty airbag sensor. They of course said bug off and did not help.

My last line of defense was calling BMWNA. If you have this same issue, go dirctly to BMWNA. it was about a month long process, but in the end, they decided to cover all parts and i end up paying for warranty repair labor rates at the dealership. So all in all i'm paying about $200 for this to be repaired.

My car has 60,xxx miles and way out of warranty. I am quite happy with just a $200 bill instead of the $1000.

Hope this helps people out if they have the same problem. Keep bugging BMWNA. Hopefully you'll get most, if not all of this covered

thanks

Andrew

Do you have CPO?

My seat mat sensor was covered under CPO at around 59k. I just paid the $50 deductible.

Interesting. Going in tomorrow for the recall and another service I need to do. I didn't know about this until they told me about it. My car is CPO. Which dealership did you go? And what did they fix? Maybe replace seat sensor?

but you remember what they did to your car? I'm gonna be gangsta and go in with my PBX installed. I turned it off though. But if they do find it... oh well I guess... my cpo is almost up anyways.
