brake pad squealing
when I turn left, the front right brake squeals. I noticed the end of the lower peg of the inner pad rubbing the caliper showing shinny metal wear. I added grease and it would stop the noise a day or 2, then squeals again. I swapped the pad to the left side, I also stopped and squeals again.
Does anyone have the same issue? Rotors and pads replaced about 1K miles ago. Any suggestions? Note: no noise from the driver side. |

Maybe try "rebedding" them in. Do a few hard stops from 50mph-10mph. Then get out on an open high way and do some 100mph-40mph with hard braking.

Something is not moving freely there.
What brand of pads? I use ATE and Pagid and they have been pretty quiet. After a couple years some dust might build up on the lower track and cause a little noise with light brake application, but wire brushing the dust off quiets it down. I typically replace the rubber pin boots every pad change. You can find them on Rock Auto, they are inexpensive. And the pad installation instructions say not to grease the pins (and therefore rubber boots). I do use small dabs on metal-to-metal contact points (but not the last time I brushed off the dust couple of months ago). All quiet now. If the pad stopped squealing after you moved it to the left side, but the one from the left side started squealing, check the pins and boots. Is the caliper piston easy to push back? If not you will need to rebuild the caliper. Last edited by mainbearing; 09-21-2021 at 11:10 AM.. |

Try using some of this stuff on the back of the pad where it meets the caliper. This will turn into a tackier rubber-ish compound that will prevent small vibrations.
https://www.amazon.com/CRC-05016-Sin...s%2C401&sr=8-1 Its also a good idea to ensure the rest of the touch points are lubed with a good synthetic lubricant like this: https://www.amazon.com/Permatex-2412...xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ== Also pad choice (semi metalics) for example will tend to be more noisy as compared to ceramic pads so you choice of pad may be playing a part here. |

The issue is not the pad. The noise seems to be the end of the metal piece sliding onto the the caliper. It seems the pad fits loosely on the caliper. When making the left turn, metal peg (from the pad) grinding against the caliper making the screeching sound.

Did it do that with the previous set? If not, maybe it was the pad?
My pads fit well on the caliper bracket and do not look loose between that and the caliper. |
