Valentine one is the best by far. The only sites that have the Passport rated higher do so because they also SELL the Passport. Since V1 is sold only from Valentine, it is in their best interest to rate it higher. Reality bites though and it is not as good a detector, which is why you buy it. As for false alarms after a week you can tell the difference between real and fake threats. Different sounds, how long the beeps last, etc. Pretty easy. You can also turn on the filter.
The downsides, if you get hit with laser, the detector will let you know you are getting a ticket. Also Infiniti smartcruise on the fronts of FX and QX infinitis will set of the laser alarm as will the tailight of Chevy Trailblazers and other GM variants of the trailblazer. Here's mine hardwired. I drive 75k a year and have had no radar tickets in 5 years. No Laser since installing the interceptors. I am a former vette owner and the vette and porsche guys also all swear by them. Don't be cheap. You'll pay for it with your first ticket.

My second detector is an STi driver but I don't use it much. It is quieter but when you do get an alert it sure makes you pay attention. My third is a Cobra XRS 9950 with optional GPS unit. Also quieter and you pay attention more when you get an alert. Updates are free for this thing as well. I couldn't update the GPS at first and sent it back in, they had to fix it and they sent me a USB cable (to use with my computer) back as well. (I tend to get their products very early when they come out and I guess they knew I didn't get one in the first place.) It seems to be a common thing with their products when they first come out. The cool thing is they will fix their issues free, (you pay for shipping to them,) (happened with my NAV ONE out of warranty which included a little physical damage due to dropping.) Only inconvenience otherwise is that the GPS unit on this is a square thing that is approx. 2" x 2" x 0.5" and is connected by a short mini USB. I used packing tape to be able to transfer it from vehicle to vehicle but it is inconvenient to mount if you don't use the velcro provided. I was seriously considering the Cobra XRS 9960G but decided to update the v1 instead for $161. This was based on cost alone. Best price for the Cobra I could find was $360, and it is on backorder. If you're seriously considering the Passport then you may consider the Beltronics GX 65 if you don't mind the red display, (saves you $30.) I believe Escort and Beltronics are basically the same company and the only difference would be the color of the display and housing, (maybe the position of the rear looking sensor makes a difference, somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.)
