A GruppeM Production | 335is FBO *RAR3* Carbon Fiber Intake

Where to start with this one...

TL;DR - I might be the only crazy with a GruppeM Carbon Fiber Intake on a FBO n54

So I got it in my head to have a little change of pace on the intake side and had always wanted a carbon fiber intake. I figured it was as good a time as ever since the Fed was needing help to burn through that helicopter currency they dished out last year. I started contacting ALL the vendors that sold the Racing Dynamics cf replica, only to find out literally the last one produced was sold about 3 weeks before I started looking into it. Simota had also made a rep version but to no avail... WELL THEN. Once I get something stuck in my head then it's gonna happen, so screw it here we go: GruppeM Carbon Fiber Intake!!

Aaaaaand that's about as long as the excitement lasted until I went to install it lol. So the install is super easy and straight forward (as shown in the directions below), as long as you're running a completely stock charge pipe and diverter valve that is. The intake box is so massive compared to stock it puts the filter right on top of the inlets so there's literally no room for any type of upgraded charge pipe that is sold as-is. No metal charge pipe with diverter valves can fit because it was designed for the stock diverter valves that go down into the charge pipe, whereas any upgraded cp has to have the connections sticking up further with a silicone adapter. NO cp with a standard location BOV flange can accommodate the bov size either. An intake designed and built in JAPAN to not be able to run an aftermarket BOV as a standard tuner mod smh.... Jenkins you IMBOCILE!! WTH were you thinking?!?

Well once I had this thing in hand I wanted to try and make it work. Did a bunch of measuring around and could see only ONE spot with ONE angle that could possibly work for a bov flange location. I then reached out to the best Evolution Racewerks to see if they could make a custom CP bov location w/ Tial flange. They got it right on the first try! Amazing! My heart was all a flutter, until I found out that the snorkel is also much larger than OEM and it was hitting the Tial BOV ever so slightly, making everything not align and seal up completely. FML. More measuring. Found the Turbosmart Raceport BOV and looked up the specs and dimensions, knew it was gonna be close but gave it a shot. It fit PERFECTLY!!

So enough foreplay, here's the carbon p0rn you came here for

Ty sir! Ya definitely very $. I purchased from Chris at vividracing got me a nice discount (+ free shipping if I remember right) which really helped out, but ya no escaping the price which is why this thing never took off for us.

A Z4... lid? I'm missing something there, what's up with the lid itself that's different to our OEM? The snorkel on the z4 35is looks pretty cool though

The Z4 lid is taller so there's larger interior volume. I wanted to change things up a bit and try a OE look again. DCI's fit and look like garbage in the engine bay IMO so that was out of the question. I'll gladly sacrifice a couple HP's for a cleaner look

I did not know that.

Ha ya I've never been a fan of DCI's personally

Completely finished . Clean OEM+

I got the Turner inlet plugs to give a little more room.
