Valve Cover mystery part?

Doing a VC gasket replacement on a 2009 328i. Putting it back together and noticed something dropped from the underside of the VC. Noticed it was one of these "caps" on the underside of the VC. The other one seems stuck on there as if some kind of adhesive is used. I gave it a pretty good tug, but it doesn't come off at all.

So...what are these things? And for the one that is just falling right off, what do I do? Can this just be glued back on with some kind of high-temp, chemical resistant adhesive? RTV?

Thanks

This write-up talks about it being a normal finding. I can’t speak to the longevity of the repair they recommend.

I had the same issue in combination with a bad PCV diaphragm. I ended up with a new valve cover.

The PCV diaphragm I know is built into the VC, so if that fails you have to get a whole new VC (which to me is really stupid). But those breather connections? It seems that the other one is stuck on there with adhesive, but...crazy glue is their recommendation? That just doesn't seem right to me. I'm with you, J0sh...does not sound like a repair with longevity at all.

Can anybody speak to the crazy glue fix? Tried it and it worked? Or would recommend something else?

If it were me I'd probably just get a new valve cover, the Uro is known to last and is cheap. Otherwise I'd probably go with the best RTV money could buy. Crazy glue seems... crazy.

Here’s a thread I made earlier in the month. There were a few other methods to reattach buried in the links I found.
