OFHG / Mickey Mouse flange
I need to do my OFHG, for the second time now.
Does it make sense to replace the Mickey Mouse flange when doing this? I’d get the aluminum one I’ve had my radiator replaced about a year ago, and then replaced a few hoses but I don’t think they would’ve touched the hose with the Mickey Mouse flange in it, correct? If doing the MM flange, and OFHG … what else should I have done while they are in there doing the work. My sepertine belt and tensioner were done 50k ago… debating on doing that as well. N52 328i, 151,000 miles Thanks

VANOS seals... I will have to look that one up, but thanks for the suggestion Crank guard seal - this is the metal cover that protects against the crank sucking in the belt if it snaps? would make sense to do if I am going to the belt/pulley/tensioner

My OFHG has lasted almost exactly 75,000 miles. My first VCG gasket went at 90k, so I am expecting on having to do that one too pretty soon.

No need to do the belt and tensioner. I'd have the shop source the t-stat hose with the aluminum flange already assembled in the hose. Shops like to replace parts for warranty purposes.

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Here is the link to the hose at FCP. Def change it. If you want to torque the OFHG correctly u have to take it off anyway. Mine was broken on both my cars. |

Agreed with everyone, I also purchased an OEM gasket and OEM bolt set. Someone on the forums recommended not getting the Rein one. They mentioned that the Rein flange started leaking shortly after installation. Unfortunately for me, the job was already done using a rein flange.

My Rein flange/gasket has been fine so far (Done last September).
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...in-11537545890 I did have a small leak from Rein upper radiator hose at the the heater hose junction, but it sealed up after the O ring expanded a bit. |

"VANOS seals" in the context of BMW usually refers to the internal gaskets on the VANOS adjusters for the M52TU, M56, and M54 engines, and require a valve cover removal along with a bit of time to replace. These do not apply to the N52, N51, N52k, N54 or N55 motors found in E90s. |
