Not an expert by any means, but the only concern might be the low side fuel pressures get down to 48 towards the end of the pull. Fuel pump may be getting tired or low pressure fuel sensor.

Curious to see what the pros say.

Thanks! Yeah I'm running stock turbos, any concerns there? And yeah, I agree the LPFP seemed to me like it was dropping towards the end there, still the stock one.

Cold Start Blues

Hello experts and N54 gods,

This is my first post. I decided to join after reading all the expertise in this forum. I am hoping someone will be able to help me before I spend thousands of dollars trying to fix my cold start rough idle. I went ahead and logged my cold start this morning hoping that you geniuses can actually decipher these measurements to help me narrow down the culprit. Here it is.

https://datazap.me/u/treudat/cold-start?log=0&data=20

I'm FBO with a MHD Stage 2+ 93 Octane tune.

I have new NGK plugs gapped to 0.020. I have new BavAuto High-Performance Ignition Coils. These came in an ECS Tuning package.

I checked on my fuel injectors and found out they were all replaced by the previous owner in 2011. The HPFP was also replaced as part of that recall. I'm not sure what index the fuel injectors are.

I have Injen DCI that doesn't fit very well with my Forge charge pipe with BOV. I have a Wagner Intercooler.

Additionally, my buddy installed catless downpipes for me in 2016, but I don't remember what brand/model they are.

I'll take any and all recommendations/guidance you Gods can provide me.

Thank you in advance.

Bav what coils?

Eldor Coils or Delphi ones recommended.

The plugs you running, are they step 1 or step 2?

Thanks so much for the reply!

This is the ECS Tuning package I purchased.

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-assemble...t/e9xupigsvkt/

High-Performance Ignition Coil Bavarian Autosport
NGK #97506 - 2 step

I actually have 6 brand new Eldor Coils on hand - #12138657273, but I was hoping the cold start logs would reveal whether the coils are the issue or not.

No worries,

I can't speak about those coils, never heard of them. Eldor Coils are reliable.

As for running 2 step colder plugs, not sure why your running 2 step colder plugs on a stock turbo stage 2+ map.

1 step or OEM Bosch plugs would be enough.

It may be the plugs causing your problems. 2 step colder plugs should be run on high power Hybrid turbos, not OTS stage 2+ stock turbos.

Do I have a boost leak?

2009 n54 e93 335i 98k KM/60k miles, 6MT

Recently New (1000 km ago):
Spark plugs NGk 1 step colder 0.22"
Valve Cover
VRSF 5" FMIC
VRSF CP
Turbosmart Kompact BOV - no maintenance done yet used for 5000k KM, sounds to vent fine.
2x Boost Solenoids
Walnut blast

Original Injectors (Index 5)
Original Coils
Original Vacuum Lines - will replace on next maintenance

Battery: 11.4V with engine off, 13.5V engine off (bonus info lol)

There's a slight medium-to-high pitched suction whistle noise that's hardly audible during idle coming from around the oil filter area, but I don't think it's anything. Wondering if there's a slight boost leak? Not really getting full boost target, ~1 PSI off, which I hear is within spec. But I've seen other member's logs and finding boost meeting boost target. Otherwise, car feels normal on the pull.

Was a hot and humid day, 34 degrees C on the dash. Running Petro Canada 94 Octane on MHD v7.1 stage 2+ 93oct map.

Thoughts on log?

Thank you!

Likely a boost leak.

Start with vacumn lines, replace all of them. Check intake/FMIC piping, charge pipe, DV for any leaks/loose connections. Check the vacumn cannisters and the connection points for any leaks/cracks.

If you can't find anything, do a smoke test.

Does this look okay? Prepping for a track day on Friday. I'm not sure if it's shown in this log but I was seeing some timing corrections today and the last time I drove the car
https://datazap.me/u/vivek/log-16298...og=0&data=3-21

This one shows some timing corrections but it was a quick log in top gear @ partial throttle:

Those are minor timing corrections, post shift corrections are normal.

You are way off boost target though 32psi vs 18psi actual boost?

WGDC is at 100%?

That's odd; it shouldn't be targeting such high boost. This is on full 91 oct pump with only 10-11% ethanol, duty cycle set to 36 on my boost controller (18psi should be about right). Was running 46DC last weekend and boosting to 28psi (full e85) no problem. Not sure how/why WGDC is pinned but actual is 14psi under the supposed target?

I've already sent the files to my tuner but thought I'd ask on here as well.

Yeah, your tuner should be able to help sort that out. I wouldn't worry about your minor timing corrections.

Under partial load and cruising you'll always get some corrections anyway, if they go away or around 3 degrees or less than it should be fine.

I'm pretty sure there are two wastegates, could it be that we're only seeing data from one of em in the log? So one's fully closed and the other is doing the work of controlling boost pressure under load?

I'm not sure to be honest mate, I don't know much about ST kits. You can always ask your Tuner, they likely have a better idea about ST kits and logging WGDC on them

First log looks good, send the log over to your tuner, Can't see anything wrong with it, just needs dialing in by tuner.

Which RB turbos you running and do you have any fueling upgrades installed?

They are rb classics 11t wheels i think 🤷🏼*♂️ and have now done 30,000 miles! Did have a little smoke The other day but that was because I had crushed the rear inlet pipe by doing it up to tight on my afe air box! Realised pretty quick what I had done lol
I’m just running walbro 450lph in tank n that’s it! I’m rhd so am needing to modify the outlets for more boost!

I’ve noticed he’s brought boost in slower in third now so it doesn’t keep knocking the tires off which is more controllable n 4th is back at 20psi!

Thanks for having a look, sometimes you miss stuff and always good to have a second opinion!
