Only Top Tier myself as well, and even though Arco is somehow a part of that, I still goto Shell or Chevron for the placebo effect.

Nevertheless there are revisions for a reason, large or small as to why they're revising them and why they're not supposed to be mixed within the same bank.

I just wish the information was out there telling EXACTLY what each revision is, side by side pics, etc. I've tried to find rebuilders with no luck and the eBay seller I've been talking to won't tell me the name of who rebuilt his from 9's to 12's, so I've just given up on him. While this may be new technology to BMW, diesel has been using these for years.

I've got a shopping cart of them at Rock Auto for $900, that's just hard to swallow so I'm trying to justify them as a mod.

You're an I6, I'm a V8...same injectors. It'll be $905 with a 5% coupon I found on Google.

I haven't used my endoscope to look inside the heads yet, but the 3rd spark plug on the drivers side was still wet with fuel. All much injectors are Index 07 so once again I'm just going to consider this as an upgrade for more power, better mileage and no more soot on my tailgate.

They were all dry except the one with the whitest tip, which happen to be the one soaked in fuel. I went to an ///M Car meet today in my old X5 since the X5M is still taken apart, but I'll be digging deeper tomorrow.

I'm not sure what you're getting at there. Nevertheless I've replaced the leaking PCV hoses on both sides, new turbo inlet gaskets, new injectors are in order and I'll go from there. If on the wild chance I blew a turbo seal, all the more reason for me to look further into the M5 turbo and header swap since I've found the parts.

Just in case there's a misunderstanding, I haven't fixed the PCV hoses until I started tearing into all if this. Minus the one plug, 2nd down from the top on that RH side, in person these all look the same. I don't know enough about direct injection, but heavy soot seems to be par for the course.

I've attached a picture after endoscoping my cylinders...all look the same with the exception of the bottom two. The top picture is what they all the other pistons look like, the middle picture looks to have fresh wet spots on the head of the piston (top, LH, which is the passenger side closest to the firewall) and the other last picture (2nd from the top, RH, which is the drivers side) looks to be oddly carbon free and just happens to be the one where the fuel soaked plug came from.

The plug I pulled was definitely soaked in fuel, not oil. While they're all pretty black, pistons heads and/or plugs themselves, none smelled like much of anything otherwise.

I thought valve seals was an N63 only thing? I've contacted the dealership about purchasing an aftermarket warranty after the fact, but then it comes down to what the warranty company covers, how do I explain what I've already taken apart and reinstalled to then say "oh, so I've potentially got an oil leak somewhere" without something catastrophic failing without being able to show them pictures as proof.

If you say turbos for sure, having worked on these cars everyday, have you had the turbos out of both an X5M and an M5 and can you verify if they're swappable because realoem pics aren't detailed enough and Garrett has yet to give me a reply to my email. While inconvenient timing wise, upgrading the turbos is something I'd like to do bigger picture no matter what, be it whatever makes the M5 vs X5M ones different to upgrades coming out in the future from shops who rebuild and modify them for more boost.

On a similar note, can you explain the differences between index -11 and -12 injectors and of the decouplers really need to be replaced with each swap? I've got an opportunity to buy 8 used (90 day warranty) -11 injectors with new teflon gaskets for $300 or new -12 (3yr warranty) injectors @ $900.

But I also assume that since there's been a fix out for the N63 that it's been used by default on the S63...I've never once read of seal problems on here or M5 boards.

I've bought warranties in the past, but they're hit or miss...mostly miss. It's gotta be a catastrophic failure (one paid for the engine and diff in my 740iL) or "that's not covered" so calling a dealership to throw another $3k at them for a maybe it's covered has me wondering if it's worse the money.

I bought the brand new 12's moments ago for piece of mind, then I'll have mine rebuilt for backups once companies start offering the service. If you work at a dealership, why would you reuse them vs walking across the hall to a parts bin? Are they like crush washers or simply dor alignment during installation. I figure if I mess one one during swapping, I can get one locally for $8 vs paying $64 for something no one has given concrete answers as to why.

I figured you hadn't swapped them, especially at a dealership...what I assumed is that you'd taken them apart though to see the differences at one point or another, then with you working there you'd have more knowledge than the opinions of people here.

I just ordered an injector from Rockauto as well. The Airtex one. I hope it's a latest revision.
