hey all! I have a question.. I'm looking into the KW V1's and is there a difference in the V1's for the Xi and the i? the KW website doesn't show any for the Xi and want to know what people are putting on their cars exactly.
thank! |

No noise problems here. The KWv1 are pretty quiet and they dont "chirp"... lol. I get most of my nioses from the car itself... interior rattles

This not directed towards anyone specifically, but you guys that are eyeing things up and measuring, thats all fine and dandy for the average joe, but to correctly lower the car you should really look into corner weight and balancing the car. Those who auto x and stuff will really find value in this as it really sets the car up nice in the handling aspect.

Be sure you maintain the front to rear height ratios (rake) as close to OEM as you can or you may start to notice unpleasant handling behavior at speed while cornering/braking.

Which is why its weird when there are some members that are CONSTANTLY saying drop your car! drop your car! drop your car!!! Lower the front!, get rid of the rake!!! You need wider wheels!!! stick them out!!!!!! Lower your car!!!
I say let people do it the way they want to mod their car. Sorry, this just frustrates me

BMW put together a pretty good auto solution with the E9x platform. Some of the mods help make it a little better and in some cases those mods or application thereof exceed the platforms reasonable ability to maintain its intended design and operation. Dropping the car has a few benefits. One of them are aesthetics, another is lower center of gravity for better handling. Each done in excess risks pushing the car outside it comfort zone. Too low and there are rear end negative camber issues adding inside tire wear, added understeer and shorter shock travel (ie rougher ride when the shocks bootom out). Imbalance with respect to OE rake settings tends to induce handling issues caused by imbalanced weigh distribution under spirited braking, steering inputs and acceleration combinations (try messing with rake for the track and let me know your thoughts ... ). More boost, wider wheels, stiffening the suspension ... anyway the list goes on. Like I always say, light sprinkle of mods. Things always test better in moderation. Joel

+1 Ever since the pic I took above I have raised the rear slightly because the car did not feel as balanced around the corners especially if the road was not perfectly smooth. I have dropped the front and rear an equal amount compared to OEM. I may retake some pictures soon just for reference.
I never gave it any thought but the fronts on the xi's may be higher than our i brothers due to the different weight distribution in the vehicle.

I do not have the specific numbers on me but I set up my rake to equal that of the regular i's since that was the look I was going for. My mechanic also owns an E9x so we measured center of the hub to fender and then subtracted from there the drop we wanted to achieve then dialed it in to those specs. It turned out that from my pic above my rear was sitting over an inch hub-to-fender lower that the front. I raised the rear to 1/8 of an inch higher than the front hub-to-fender gap.
Hope this clears things up a bit.
