I'm looking to order some silver wheel nut covers as my factory nuts are letting my wheels down. They appear to be available in several sizes. I'm away from my car for a while so can't measure it myself, does anyone know what size I need to order?

Something Seb I'm looking to do myself once my quest for wheels in solved!!! There's a good few out there on ebay I haven't measured mine TBH but I think if done right these caps offer a nice visual enhancment

I had the same issue but got new silver bolts instead. They're now 4 years old and still look like new. The set I got came with similar looking locking wheel nuts as well.

they are usually 17mm but you cant get cover to fit the locking nut so looks a bit odd

Same issue here brand new bolts look 50 years old after 6 months.

The standard BMW bolt heads are 17mm but as acerboo says they won't cover the locking bolts. Im not convinced by the effectiveness of locking bolts though. They really spruce up tired bolt heads but I like the look of those chrome bolts......

Audi supply these:

Which are intended for 17mm bolts, and have four larger round caps to fit over the locking wheel nut. I dont know if they will fit the BMW locking wheel nut though, however i will have a rake today to see if i've still got a set in the shed and will try them on my car to see if they fit.

Can't justify 20 quid for them - rip off. Those hooks for my boot were a crazy price form VAG - time for some ebay searching:

Thank you for all your replies and suggestions guys, as always they are much appreciated.

So it sounds like the bottom line is that the required cap size is 17mm, however they won't fit for the locking wheel nut, unfortunately making that solution unacceptable.

Alternatives are therefore new silver bolts which won't look nasty after a while like the OEM ones or these Audi caps above which have a different cap to accommodate the locking wheel nut.

Aragorn30d are the Audi ones shiny silver? The finish looks like satin grey from that photo.

Calluhan that photo you posted, I assume they are new bolts (with no locking wheel bolt) rather than caps?

Does anyone know anything about lug nut conversions?

I haven't fitted locking bolts to the rears mate, no. Car gets garaged at night and rarely left anywhere dodgy.

Found a couple of the Audi ones, unfortunately the locking wheel nut one doesnt fit the BMW locking wheel bolt, the outer diameter of the bolt is too large to fit inside the cap

And yes, they're a sort of "gunmetal" grey sorta color, but oddly enough i think they actually look better in that shade than in the bright chrome/silver. The bright ones pictured above sorta stand out and catch your eye, whereas the gunmetal color just quietly looks neat and tidy in a non-shouty OEM way. IE the Audi color looks "factory" whereas the chrome ones look like aftermarket addons.

I guess its a personal taste thing.

Hmmm yeah I thought the same as you about chrome - but didn't want black. So I gave them a go thinking I wouldn't like them as they're too blingy.

In reality, they look very good and don't stand out as much as you might think - I'll get a better pic up.

Thank you for checking for us, looks like that option's not viable either then, it's a shame. As for the colour, It's hard to say without seeing them on a wheel - first thought was that it may look odd on my wheel as I have a fully diamond turned face.

I think new boolts Seb may go the same way as your current one's lockers aside for the money http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/25127...f14=108&ff19=0 these don't seem a bad punt for the money as you'll see there are a fair few 17mm options

Thanks for all the advice guys. I've chosen to buy the bolts which Half Colin recommended above, and says still look good after several years:

If these end up looking nasty like my current ones, then I will have enough bolts to replace the locking wheel bolts with non-locking, and will get the bolt covers we've posted above. I'll post some photos when these are fitted.

I may do the same Ess, got some new bolts and locks from CM Wherls, nice shiny and chrome. After 6 months they look horrible! I just can't bring myself to get new bolts again, worried they'll just go rusty again.

I wonder why they end up looking so bad - is it the finish which deteriorates when exposed to the elements or is it just a very heavy accumulation of grime which isn't easy to clean off?

My old car had shiny chromed plastic bolt covers and they looked immaculate.

All I can say is that I've bought the covers to cover bolts similar to your link. They were extended bolts for spacers. They haven't rusted but have gone milky and grey. Hope yours fare better mate.

Cheers Calluhan. I needed more bolts to replace the locking ones in order to use the caps, so I'll try these ones without the caps while they look nice, and then will get the caps when they go nasty. It's a win-win situation!
