Fuel/ Oil on fuel injectors
Hello,
I decided to check for any oil leaks around the engine and found the a 'pool' of fuel/ oil not sure what exactly it is around the fuel injectors. I've tried to wipe as much as it away and have suspected at least 3 of the 6 injectors are leaking of some sort. There was only so much I could remove due to the lack of space, I restarted the engine and left it for a couple of minutes however I couldn't tell if it was leaking again. What would my options be? I've attatched a few photos. Engine is the N57 325d Cheers |

I'm not too familiar with the diesel engine setup but its most likely a rocker cover gasket leak or cracked rocker cover. Oil leaking and finding the lowest point to pool, if the oil works its way past the injector seals you will start getting misfires and cold start issues.
This is just my opinion based on my experience with a leaky petrol 335i |

Or if it's the injector adjacent to the oil filler cap, it could be spill-over from the filler running down the cover...

I was thinking that because when I did fill up the oil I did spill a small amount. However I did clean as much as I could off and in the areas I could. I checked again and seems to be bit more of this liquid pooled up on 2/3 injector, so I am a bit unsure.
I checked for leaks but I couldn't find any, I checked the return lines for the injectors and they didn't seem like they were leaking. |

Try to clean every last drop of oil and see if it returns. If it does, it could be a hairline crack in the plastic valve cover (not unknown).

it looks like used oil, so probably not from the overspill. My 335i cover was cracked right above injector 3. the crack was missed by previous owner who just replaced the gasket and two other garages also. they seem to crack/split at common joints

I'll give it a good clean tomorrow. if it is the valve cover, is it easy to replace? I've seen a lot of guides and videos online however I've not found one for a diesel never mind the N57.
I'm guessing removal of fuel injectors and fuel rail? |

Ive only worked on the N54 engine, i didnt have to remove the injectors but did have to remove the fuel rail and pipes that run to the injectors. Just remove all the crap on top of the cover. the Bentley workshop manual should have all the steps needed for the N57 i can have a look for you and PM you a scan of the pages if needed |

Newtis.info for workshop manuals...
Yes, you will have to remove injectors and fuel rail, assuming it's the same as the N47 setup. I had fun with the o-rings on the leakoff fittings after doing one on an N47...just something to bear in mind! They're not a standard size. |

Okay thanks, I've tried to remove as much as the oil as possible, ran the engine for a couple of minutes and it looked OK. I'll check again after a week.
Now I noticed this green looking liquid leak (possibly coolant) near the radiator I've attached some photos. Not really sure how it's come |

I think that's an aircon union not cooling system...

Hard to tell. Maybe you need a pressure test and re-gas.

Yep, those are aircon lines. I'm not sure how that would contribute to a buzzing noise, but it can't be helping anything. I'd want to figure out what the source of the noise is first...

The noise I believe is coming from the AC compressor with a bad bearing or something. I'm guessing the green stuff is the dye they use to track leaks?
