AC drier Replacement

Hi everyone. I recently (2 years ago now...) did some major work on my e92 335i, i had the engine out, and Ac drained, and open.

The ac lines were open for about 2 months. I thought i would try to replace the AC drier in the condenser. I read that some newer models the drier is welder on, mine is not welder, it had a plastic screw, then a snap ring.

I removed the snap ring, replaced the desiccant element, and put it back together.

I pulled vacuum for a couple hours, then started to fill the system with refrigerant. put about 19 oz of 134a into the system, low side was around 40psi, and hi side was about 240psi. ac was working fine. I thought i needed a tiny bit more to get the system to 20.8 oz. so i added just a tiny bit more then BOOM! The drier plug unit poped out, dumping all the r134a into the garage... yuck.

I assumed I didn't put the snap rig in correctly so i rinsed and repeated, this time it blew off at around 100psi on the high side.

Anyone else have anything like this. thinking either remove the condenser, and use more force to push the drier insert down, then try to fill it. or JB weld the snap ring in place, or replace the condenser.

ac drier

Hi, I need to recharge my ac, your post said that you posted a photo? I did not see a link to it. Any how how did you get the old one out, from the top or is it accessable from under the car?

Condenser desiccant

My desiccant is accessed from the bottom and has a metal plug. Removed the intercooler and easy access. Had no snap ring either. Plug was pretty had to unscrew though. My model month is Feb.
