Tire profile question

Hi guys

I just have a quick question about tire sizes, what is the stock set up for the e90 tires, I have noticed on mine that the front is 235/40/18 and rear is 255/35/18, they are style 162, what's got me confused is the 40 and 35, should the rear have less profile? What is the stock set up?

Yes the rear should have less profile , since its wider than front. Stock setup is 225/40/18 front and 255/35/18. Those have almost no difference in diameter only 0.06 inch or 0.2%. Someone changed your front tyre to 235/40 at some point.

The middle value is a percentage of the width, so they are meant to be different profiles considering the rear is wider. The goal is to keep the height as close as you can between the front and rear tires. Your stocks should have been 225/40/18 though, as MonacoBlueE90 pointed out.

Always thought the profile percentage was always meant to be the same front and back,
And the trader I got the car off changed the tires and I was just looking at them again today and got a bit lost in that. Thanks for clearing it up though guys!
Fronts being 235 should be ok right?

If you haven't experienced any problems yet I wouldn't be worried, but personally I'd probably size the fronts down to 225/40/18 to match the rears in height.

Yes.

225 = width
40 = profile/tire height (40% of the width)

Yes, but a 225 will match the height because the profile is the same (profile being a percentage of the width).
