What's my car worth?
I have a 2011 335xi deep sea blue metallic coupe that I would like to sell but having trouble pricing it. The car is an Auto with 99k miles. Had the car about a year and have replaced a few components on the car, HPFP all six injectors valve cover/gasket. Despite these repairs the car has been running rough in limp mode throwing DME fault codes (DME and wiring was inspected and all is fine) and after some time in multiple shops, my Indy and two BMW dealers I've been informed by BMW dealer #2 the engine has some internal damage to camshaft and/or rod bearing. After putting so much money time and effort into the car I couldn't justify additional money spent (a substantial part of my down payment on F80) on pinpointing the issue as BMW informed me they would need more authorized labor time and would only locate the issue not rebuild the engine. So I'm trying to figure out what this car is worth, any ideas on list price? Thanks

I would sell the car at a Copart auction. I think that it would be the safest way to get rid of a car with severe mechanical damage. If you list it on craigslist you are going to be dealing with the bottom of the barrel; No shows, time wasters, ect. When I sold my E36 I had five people no show before I had my first person even come to look at my car.

I think tlow layed it out perfectly... pretty accurate estimates all things considered. Finding someone to purchase with a spun bearing (at least) for 5k will be tough. I almost spun a rod bearing and spent a ton for replacement. That's assuming it's the only issue. Interested in what you decide please keep us posted.

Donate it to a local charity (i.e. Purple heart, Salvation Army, etc.) and claim whatever amount you want as a deduction.

Busted Engine, you will be lucky to get $2k. Nobody wants to buy a car with a busted engine unless they are a mechanic who can get it dirt cheap, because there are plenty of good running cars out there for not much money.

Take it to iaa or copart that’s the best place to sell cars with a issue. I don’t know the price for copart but I know iaa is a 100 of the top of the selling price

There was a dude in Texas who “allegedly” drove his Bugatti into the ocean to get the insurance money, there is even a video of it 😂. So hintity hint...
Joking of course. |
