Hello

Sara's looking for an N55 downpipe fix but she can't find one. Can you help?


I ordered BMS downpipe but I was told my check engine will come on if I dont have a fix.

Only choice is JB4 or a CANtool Sara. If/when I get my car back with a tune in it, I don't mind selling you my CANtool for..$60 + one of those LTBMW decals you posted on your fb page from awhile back!

I've heard of other tricks like using a spark plug anti-fouler or using a resister.

JB4? Wait Im not tuning my car Im just putting a downpipe on. Im a little confused. Please explain why I'd need a JB4. Thanks

The JB4 can remove the DP code/light. The CANtool can do the exact same thing. There isn't a pure DP fix yet for the N55.

If you don't want to tune your car then the CANtool is the cheapest fix..well leaving the code on the car and ignoring it would probably be the cheapest fix actually lol.

Jb4 has autoclear option, which will prevent from throwing any code

Lets not forget about the Procede It has an autoclear function too.

Sara you need a tune otherwise there is no point to the downpipe (aside from sound) and you will have a CEL.

All I want to do is look nice and sound good. Going 6 million miles per hour I dont care about, Im not a speed racer. I think I just need a cantool. Correct?

Sara if youre doing this just for sound, which is basically all youre gonna grt out of a downpipe without a tune, then I would suggest to just get a bmw performance exhaust and call it a day. No check engine light hassle and no drone, plus its a bmw part so no warranty trouble.

The CAN tool can be used as a band aid if you dont want a tune.

However, again, its kind of a waste to use a downpipe and go through that trouble when you could have got sound from a cat back exhaust.

A catback is also less hassle to install and you dont have to worry about emission problems, inspections, check engines lights, the potential to smell like gas at stop lights, ETC ETC

Not to mention warranty work?

There are pros and cons to every modification. If budget is a concern then yes you can get sound out of downpipes for less cost. The downside is the above mentioned. It goes without saying, you get what you pay for. Cheap sound but it comes with its own "costs", in this case CEL, Gas smell, potential for warranty work denied, costly installation.

I dont want to get in trouble for having a JB4 though... I can run JB4 on stock map right and be fine?

CAN isnt active on map 0 so yes, the CEL will still be on. The universe is clearly forcing you to go tuned lol
