Depends where you go.
National tyres will do oil and filter for about £50/60
BMW will charge £130iah for the same.

Brake fluid is generally around £40 to have done.

With National and the like be sure the quote and the work includes the right oil... usual they have a base price to quote and fill with some crappy semi-synthetic rubbish at some disgusting 5w40 weight... they then "upsell" the correct oil!!!

Not really. Go on there website and put your reg in. It will tell you exactly what oil grade they use and how much they charge.

Been using National for a few years, have never paid more than £50 for an oil change.

I went onto the National Tyres website and input my REG for my 330i and it quoted a price of £71.

this was based on using LUKOIL GENESIS SPECIAL VN 5W-30 which to my shock and awe is actually LL-04 approved!

There is however no mention on the filter Brand used nor would I trust a tyre shop with my poor sump pan threads (mental image of an air gun being used on the pan!)...

Personally I would rather pay the extra £50 to BMW to have a dealership do the change with OEM filter and oil. That and you get a free wash and vacuum...

Back to the point though it seems National Tyres are a better choice than most but still be careful with tyre shops!

When you phone the branch, the price is always less than online. Plus you can use the £5 off voucher.

The filter brand again depends on the branch as this is sourced from there local motor factors. Last time they used Mann.

In that case I stand corrected although it still stands that it must be checked that you're getting the right service not the right price... Thanks for adding in your experience though it tops my speculation

When National have done mine (Twice), I supplied a genuine BMW filter for them. They also let me hang around the workshop when they did the change (I asked if I could have a look around the underside of the car)

as long as you get the dipstick area of engine on a slope,,ie my drive is perfect,,i drive up it and put a flagstone on drivers side to aid tilting,,then all the oil congregates in that area,,i got nearly 8 litres out last time,,..i keep old oil cannisters to put the old oil in,,then keep new ones when empty etc,,also suck the little bit of oil out the bottom of the oil filter housing..the electric ones are easy,,ive had a vacuum nand pump, but the seals went after couple years,,just a cheap one from e bay,,my electric one was £10,49 so even if it only lasts 3 years its still worth it,,ive got 2 cars so would be 6 services etc

Interesting. Have you got a link to this pump? I don’t have a garage anymore so doing oil changes means doing it on a friends drive which is a pain. I could do it in my flats car park with your method.
Pumping it straight into a couple of empty oil cans also saves a lot of mess.
Sounds good.

This has peaked my interest as I don't do oil changes because of the mess. So you buy an electric pump and stick it where?

Sounds brilliant, and the pumps are cheap? Is the oil filter easy to change on a 330d?

should be up the top of the engine on the right hand side, you normally need a special oil cap removal tool mind but again cheap investments

i think its a 32 mm socket for the oil filter cap,,just be careful un doing it,,as metal on plastic is not a good recipe,,slow force etc..also when doing it,,do not have the oil too hot,,just drive around the block and that will do,,the tubes will get distorted and be useless for next time if they get too hot..i also use a spare car batery to do this,,saves getting the wires across the engine etc when doing it..

Use a 6 sided socket, worth buying one off eBay for a few quid for this job.
And put rags around the oil filter housing as the filter will drip as you lift it out
