Break in period for turbos?

So I went to the dealer to get a couple things done. One was about a rattle coming from the motor. I was thinking it was just the wastgates but the dealer said they will have to replace both turbos. When I get the car back is there a way I should not be driving for a period of time??

Thanks.

An engine needs to be broken in because there are metal parts, pistons and the engine block, which need to "adapt" to each other. Meaning there will be a few nanometers of material get shaved off on the first few hundred miles. These metal shavings are collected in the oil which is why an oil change is often recommended after the break in period.

But theres no such thing happening with the turbos. There are no metal surfaces in contact, only the bearing and axles.

Can you provide what exactly you are experiencing. What noise are you referring to? Is it a Metal clapping or slapping noise that is on and off?

Just make sure your oil is up to temp before boosting, atleast 160F.
