My 325i mpg stays above 20 mpg city. I drive in manual mode at all times unless I'm eating and I shift at 2k rpm starting in 2nd and I get into sixth as fast as I can. I drive at least 45-60 on almost every road regardless of speed limit. I mix that with ultra aggressive redline shifts. When I cruise control I see an instant boost in mpg so I cruise control often but I don't let the car brake on a downhill. I actually accelerate on downhills and I let it lose a little speed uphill.
Last week I drove from South Bend to Bloomington (3.5 hours) and averaged 32.1 with two near top speed runs on the way. The rest of the time I cruise controlled at 65. I Ubered for a few hours (lots of idling) and drove all day pedal to the metal at every green light until my mpgs dropped to 20 then drove back the next day. By the time I got back my mpgs were back to 28. South Bend is less stop and go, with longer distances between stop lights and plenty of roundabouts and I also try to time green lights. I also don't slow down at all in corners or roundabouts. Here in this city is where I average about 22 or more but I have occasional bouts of aggressive driving. If I'm too aggressive it'll drop to 20. When I first got my car I was getting 17ish mpg a year and a half ago. I have since switched to non-run flats and light-weight ec7 18's, ran fuel injector cleaner through it, and drive in manual mode at all times. I only use 93 octane and if a gas station only has 91 I go to another one. I don't have much horsepower to give up. Oil level hasn't changed at all in the last 5000 miles so I guess it doesn't really burn much oil. Last edited by Centmaker; 04-25-2017 at 03:49 AM.. |

328i X0drive wagon, Highway & City, driving calmly I average about 22-23MPG.
Most I've had from a tank was over 400 miles on more than one occasion... That indicated about 26-point-something mpg, and calculated (miles driven divided by gallons fill-to-fill) came out to be 25.95, if I recall. The indicated-to-actual error was about 7 or 8 percent, I think, which is not as good as my Audi used to do (typically within 2%) but it's not all that much of an annoyance. |
