Bad Gas-Threw Code 143
Yesterday i was running out of gas and had no choice but to fill up with Phillips 66 (93). Ive always put in Shell 93. I didnt turn the car off (oops) and had the V3 on. Well about a mile down the road CEL came on and half power light came on too. I turned car off and drove away. Still today I get the code 143 (O2 sensor) even when the procede is not on. I took the procede out and will bring it in to the shop. Has anyone else had this happen after putting other gas in? Could my o2 sensor have a bad reaction to poor gas? Any suggestions or experience is appreciated!!

I have fuel pump failure and threw CEL and SES after putting in valero gas(non brand). Does your pump also stop while fueling up? Mine doesnt fill up unless the gas person is holding on the handle or else it will stop like my tanks full and it isnt. Might be coincidence or maybe it IS the gas these non brand gas stations get.

This has nothing to do with you putting 76 gas in.
76 isn't even bad gas. 1. Chevron 2. Shell 3. 76 I'm fine with any of those. This is most likely because you left your car on while refueling!! Just like the CEL goes on when you forget to screw on your gas cap after fueling up. |

hmm. . .
I would think you're being sarcastic because that just makes no sense to me. It's common sense to turn off your engine before fueling. |

You guys are all joking right? Let's see - there must be a reason there is a sign at every gas pump that says "shut off vehicle before pumping gas". I'm pretty sure they place these signs pretty close to the signs that say "no smoking".

If I were to take a educated guess, I would suggest that the o2 sensor simply failed. It probably has nothing to do with the gas, it was just a coincidence that it triggered the code after filling up with gas. Although, I do know that some cars (not sure if the 335 is like this or not) run diagnostic checks after the fuel levels move a certain amount. I believe LS1 motors fall into this category.
Anyway, FWIW, o2 sensor failures are not uncommon on BMWs. In fact, I have one that needs replacing on my 98 m3. |

it makes drivers feel what being in a pit stop would feel like (minus the 4 tire swap and camber adjustments).

Although various members have stated when they fill up with gas they leave the car on. Everyone who has bashed them for doing so hasn't yet given an answer to WHY it is bad to do so... I personally do shut my car off, but what indeed is the real reason to shut the car off?

1. do not smoke 2. shut off your engine. most gas stations too mention the "static electricity" warning as well. besides those obvious reasons, my guess is that it's not good to gas up while the motor runs for these reasons: 1. potential CEL for running the motor w/out the fuel cap on 2. potential evaporative emission errors (maybe due to #1) 3. adding air bubbles/oxygen into the gas tank and having the fuel lines filled w/ air however minimal they may be (just a guess of course). 4. you decide to tie your shoes or walk to the mini-mart to buy something AND some dude quickly jumps in your car and takes off. LOL! seriously, too many bad things can happen. and they outweigh any of the potential benefits of leaving the engine on. |

my gfs dad filled up her g37 once with the car and i snapped at them but he had no choice, he ran out of gas in middle of buttfuck with no car keys, ( sorta like comfort access feature ) and if he turned it off he would be stuck lol
turn car off! always

It's perfectly fine to fill up your car while the engine is on. Try travelling outside of the
U.S. and you'll notice that almost everyone else in the world fills up with the engine running.
