I rode that same cable lift up Zugspits and then snowboarded down the other side. What a great place! I also spent some time in Fussen and the Neuschwanstein are. Your pictures bring back great memories!

If you don't mind sharing what were your total travel expenses to do this? Gas? Hotels? Road Tolls?

I am hoping to be able to do something similar in about a year and want to know how much I need to start budgeting.

Queen's Day was amazing. It completely transformed the city. I was there 6 days on vacation, so I wasn't sober for any of them since I didn't have to worry about driving. Had to be the biggest party I've ever been to, and I've been to some big ones. Rock'am'Ring @ Nurburgring comes to mind. 3 days, 3 stages, 100 bands, and 75,000 people.

There were still plenty of people skiing and snowboarding when I went up there. I wasn't dressed to join them though.

That is the radar sensor for the Active Cruise Control. It really is a great system for steady traffic, or areas where passing is not an option.

I've got a Nikon D50, and for most of the shots I used the standard kit 18-55 lens, until I broke it. But, that gave me the excuse I needed to get one of the lenses I've been wanting to buy for a while, the Nikon 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX ED VR. A polarized filter makes a lot of difference too. Cuts on glare, sharpens the colors, and really brings the blue out in the sky.

It was a month long trip, so it wasn't cheap. As I mentioned at the beginning of my post, I was paying my brothers way (although if your married, costs would be similar with a spouse) Air fare was really reasonable, about $800 per for round trip. Gas for the car was about $1000 for the month with $90-$110 per fill up depending on the country. For the whole trip I averaged 22mpg, including city, highway, 2 trips to Nurburgring, and lots of 100+ Mph cruising. For the whole month in hotels it was about $4,500 with nothing too fancy. You could end up spending a lot more, or a lot less depending on what you are looking for. German road use tax and city congestion stickers are included in the program. The other highway toll stickers came out like this: Czech - $25, Slovak - $15, Austrian - $10, Swiss - $35. Most of the other EU countries, to my knowledge, don't require highway toll tags. I couldn't tell you how much I spent on food, and random stuff along the way, because I didn't really keep track of it.

congrats on the car...looks great
Probably, but among the 1,000,000+ people out there, who's to say. Time before last when I was up on the Zugspitze one of those birds decided to use my back as a toilet while I was having lunch at Germany's highest beer garden.

wow, fantastic shots and great review! thanks for sharing with us.

btw, for the front EU plate, did they have to drill holes in your bumper or did they just use adhesive? I want to do Euro Delivery, but I would hate to bring the car back here with holes in the bumper.
