After lucking out over the years on two e91 6MT m sports and currently a F31 in estoril blue, I can attest you need to stalk the sites religiously and cannot even wait for the daily alerts to hit - as those are generally delayed. Every one of the aforementioned vehicles had a waitlist 20-30 deep behind me from what I was told by the sellers - just the luck of the draw that I jumped on each and slapped a deposit down.

Also - dont rely on gentlemen's agreements in this day and age...unfortunate, but it will just leave you disappointed. I've lost out on two e91 m-sports (both coincidentally lemans examples...hmmmm) where the seller outright told me we had an agreement for sale and then backed out. In the latest instance, the guy even drafted a BOS with all his license info, said he didn't need venmo/paypal hold funds, and then texted that night to tell me he got a higher offer and was going to back out.

Wow, that sucks but I guess worked out in the end. You have to be pushy with these things. That's how I was (even when I felt I was too pushy) and it worked out. Fortunately, for me I took a BIG risk but ended up being worth it. It was one of those situations where the owners didn't know what they had. Wife's daily driver and had no more room for it in the garage. 90xxx miles. 1 owner. Long list of maintenance from BMW dealer. I found it on Boston Craigslist instantly contacted the seller and he probably thought I was a scammer. Didn't even want to sell it to me cause I wasn't local I begged to send he/his wife a deposit via wire transfer (risky) but they didn't want to accept. He told me there was one person local to him that was interested but said person wasn't able to see it till the weekend. Well, I somehow convinced him to remove his listing, overnighted a check, cleared, and rearranged shipping. The deal was done.

I was on my toes the whole time until shipping was confirmed and I received photos of it on the trailer, lol.

Long story short. If you see something you like, jump on it. Oh, and here we are 4 1/2 months & 12,000 miles later...

Yup, agree with all of the above!
Can’t rely on sellers saying they’ll hold anything for you.
Shoot, even when I find good deals on random stuff near me, I try to go that very moment. LOL!

While this thread is great to keep an eye on, by the time a car is listed here, the listing has already been seen by a lot of other people.

My wife didn’t believe me when I explained why I needed to go see that car that was local. Turned out to be a mess but hopefully whoever bought it has a chance to turn it around.

Luckily, miraculously, I live about 45 minutes away from the seller and was ready to purchase immediately, so I got it!

(I was also lucky that the seller, Brett Wriggly/BlaksabthE70, is an enthusiast, is a regular on this site, and the car was 9.75/10. It needed a cup holder and some scheduled maintenance, but was a California, Bay area car before coming to Georgia and living in a garage when not being driven by a retired school teacher. It was pretty much immaculate, which worked out for me committing to it site unseen.)

Seems like a great price. Good luck!
That SAC car has piqued my curiosity. I don't mind high miles if well maintained.
I just wish it was closer so I could put eyes on it.
Anyone in SAC have a burning desire to investigate??? I'm really thinking of flying up, but would suck if it was a junker.

It's just about where my non Xdrive for ride height. Granted looks like it's on a slope but should not affect it that much. Car looks clean, and engine goes toast it's a great base for N54 6 spd conversion.

Ah! Thanks, but no. I'm not in IG. There's a fella from FL, Jon Conley who has a near twin as mine (he was before me with the Apex SM-10s, so I guess I'm HIS twin!)

This is his car, with the wheels photoshopped from Anthracite to silver. I wanted to see how it looked before getting the SM-10s.

Agree with everyone above. I looked for quite a long time. My wagon popped up on cars.com and I messaged him within 10 minutes of it being listed. I was the first to message and I ended up driving from PA to VA that same day, checking it out, getting a hotel for the night, and making the deal the next day. He said he couldn’t count the number of messages he got in those 2 days!

Howdy all! I just secured a 09' RWD in Barberarot. Short of the car being an absolute basket case, I'll join the long roof gang when I go pick it up this weekend!

Slightly related- any E91-specific things to be aware of when swapping to a manual transmission? Thanks!

Hey Bud, congrats on the purchase! We are actually in the process of swapping a coupe... the wagon is next. A few things we have found so far... Make sure to get the hardline that comes off the transmission as well as the bracket that attaches to the trans tunnel (Supports the shift linkage). Those are two items thus far that we have found we missed and had to go back for parts on the donor car.

Those wheels are the only wheel that makes me consider swapping my 513s. Maybe I can run SM10 on the left and 513 on the right Car is a beaut!

There are several thread on the swap. I just finished on my wagon last week. Nothing E91 specific coming to mind.

As far as what you need from the donor...
  • Trans with cross member
  • Trans plastic underbody cover and bracket that attaches to cross member for it
  • Shift carrier assembly with the actual shifter (attached to transmission)
  • Shift boot (inside) and the larger rubber grommet on the shift rod
  • Exhaust bracket that runs parallel to cross member (Different than auto)
  • Oxygen sensor wire routing bracket on passenger side of transmission
  • Slave cylinder (I bought a new one)
  • Slave cylinder bracket
  • Slave cylinder hard line and hard/soft line to clutch master (Worth just buying these new in my opinion..). Grab the firewall grommets.
  • Clutch fill line grommet (behind brake booster)
  • Reverse switch pigtail (cut at trans with some room for splicing)
  • If in good shape take the flywheel, clutch, and release assembly. I lucked out in the JY and found a basically new Valeo SMFW kit.
  • Driveshaft
  • Differential if you want the correct factory gearing
  • Pedal box (clutch/brake). Make sure you keep the pigtail and plastic piece that is connected to the master cylinder. Its the clutch switch and expensive to get new (maybe NLA? don't remember). Leave some wire for splicing.
  • Accelerator pedal (Manual one does not have the kickdown in it like the auto, but the auto one probably works fine?)

I also changed the radiator on mine over to a new one for a manual which doesn't have connections for the trans cooler the auto uses. If you do this you'll need...
  • Engine block coolant outlet pipe (metal pipe that transitions to rubber on passenger side)
  • Coolant crossover pipe which runs over the subframe in front of the engine

[/LIST]
The auto accelerator pedal works fine. I had this concern when I was swapping my car as the vehicular diy tutorial mentioned needing it and googling showed a different voltage (5.5v) at kickdown so I thought the whole potentiometer throttle profile might behave differently.
I have used the regular auto pedal and now a DCT pedal (M sport) and both work fine (seemingly) with my manual. If you're always full throttle, maybe you might feel the click at kickdown and get annoyed but so far it's never been an issue. At full throttle my car has so much going on that the pedal click is not noticeable.

This seems like a great deal... If only it had sport package. Also, we don't know about title.

Yes, it looks pretty clean, but as with any dealer sale, a lot of unknowns. I like it when dealers automatically include a Carfax. While those aren't the end-all of information for cars, it provides a nice baseline for the car as well as shows the dealer isn't obviously trying to hide anything.

I was trying to sell my wife on this one, but she's sprung on five series...
I guess there's no going back once you've had the big five!

According to Autocheck, the car was repossessed in December.
