Can the oil thermostat cover gasket be purchased?

Looking for a replacement for this gasket:

I just installed a used cooler with OFH and T stat and had a leak here:

I’m not surprised it leaked I should never have opened it but I wanted to clean up the parts I bought, lol. Anyway I sealed it with RTV for now and then spent some time googling and can’t find a part number for that gasket.

I was wondering about this as I am starting to develop a leak at that gasket. Have changed both other OFHG gaskets but I can definitely see it is coming from that spot as there is only a little oil residue around around that plate. Looks like I might have to use silicone to try to seal it.

BMW doesn't sell this gasket separately apparently, but there are 3rd party suppliers who sell a neat billet alloy cover which comes with a gasket

Good to know, do you have a link or a name for the cover? Thanks

I did the rtv ultra black on the old gasket and am having good results with it so far. I’ve put about 50 miles on the car today and no leaks...

It leaked in less than a week and I ended up buying an aftermarket cover with gasket that hasn’t leaked since.

I wonder who makes that octagonal gasket. I looked on Elring's and Victor Reinz online catalog but don't see anything like that.

Do you by any chance know the thickness of the gasket?

I had to find this seal when I was installing the Oil tstat on my 128i. A round seal works just fine in the octagon groove. Had it installed since March 2020 with no leaks.

43mm OD, 3mm thick o-ring

Thank you for sharing this!

Would you be able to snap a close up pick of the mating area with the cover on?

Don't need a new cover. Just want a gasket.

Paying $60-70 for this is ridiculous.

Regular o ring will do just fine as mentioned by spidertri

I'll have to take a picture tonight of the cover on, but for now here's one showing how far out the oring protrudes when seated in the groove. When I tightened down the cover it sealed up like normal.

They are Viton, resistant to motor oil and good to 400F.

Here's a pic with the cap on, all of the other pictures with the cap off were from when I installed it last year.
