Rattle coming from rear left when going over bumps

What could this rattle be? its really quiet with the windows up but with the windows down, the slight rattle is really annoying. Im really hoping its something loose on the exhaust or underbody tray, but for worse case scenario, what could be causing the noise in terms of suspension components? It kind of sounds like a metallic spring bouncing around. The sound happens even on the smallest bumps in the road which makes it very annoying to hear.

Reminds me of my broken lower strut mount, give that a look. Mine had pulled right through so that the end of the piston was riding on top of the arm its supposed to go through

Have you checked the sway bar endlinks? They will make a racket when they fail or break.

Would this result in a plastic like rattle from the rear left? Let me see if I can record the sound

I had lift access which made it easy. You could probably do it on jackstands. You will definitely need a buddy.

I had a rattle from the rear which turned out to be loose upper shock mounts. I forgot to torque them completely when reinstalling.

Fast forward two years - I installed new shocks and now I'm hearing the same noise. I still need to check the upper shock mounts. I inspected the rear swaybar end links but they seem to be fine. I can't feel any free play. Is it possible for them to not show any slop when checking by hand but still rattling around over bumps?

Do you have rear folding seats by any chance? I also had another rattle issue that ended up being the seats. I added grease to the latches and it solved that rattle.

I do have folding seats, but my rattle sounds like a very quiet maraca sound coming from the exterior left rear. Only possible to hear it clearly with windows or sunroof down.

I had some similar rattles on my e91. like a real plastic, light weight part. Turned out its the BMW wheel centre caps. (love a cheap easy fix)
