There is someone with one for sale in Texas now, he's got his listed in the low 20s a pre lci car with a clean title. FBO car, I'm curious what he'll get for it. There is probably at least a dozen of these out there now.

I'm already thinking about the next project, B58 into an F31, or an E34 project if I can find one.
B58 into an F31 has been done, someone down in California if I'm not mistaken! I have a thread where I mentioned the idea of an f81 m3 build a while ago, someone commented and posted pictures of the b58 swapped car in there. I'll see if I can find a link!

I'm considering either an F81 M3, or a B58 F31. Kinda the two options I'm thinking for the next next project. Currently I'm looking to build a lifted Ford Econoline, planning to do a 4x4 conversion and everything. Going to make myself a bit of a camper/offroading van. Once I come back from New York, I'll be looking for a new wagon to fill the gaping touring shaped hole in my heart lol

I would totally do an F31 with B58 and manual.
My problem is that I don't want to sell any of my cars... and I would have to if I want to pursue a project like that. So, the first order of business is to win lottery, build a bigger house with a 10-car garage and start a wagon conversion museum.

Yeah F31 with a B58 is big money for a project. You're going to be figuring a lot out on your own too. I suppose you could get something copart with a B58 for donor, but a F31 with a clean title is still bringing money I suppose? Maybe there is a mechanically totaled car to find for reasonable but my guess is you're in for a 20k build for a fun car.

Such a beauty mate! My e91 is black and I regret not buying a white one. Looks so good!

great work!

I'm swapping N54 from a 2010 335xi donor into my 2012 e91xi.
I will swap DME, CAS, and Key modules. will this work without any issues or additional coding ?

thanks in advance

That will work, but it's not the right way to do it. You have to include the cluster as well. It'll run and drive, but it will read the wrong VIN number whenever you plug the car into any sort of software. I don't remember if it'll work without any coding, I'm sure a lot of things will need to get sorted out. I had to change VIN numbers in a few of the modules to get it to start. It's been two years since I did the swap.

The proper way is to get your factory CAS matched to the donor DME, which requires a special tool and software. It can't be done through WinKFP or anything like that. I had to pay for someone else to do it.

The entire swap will require coding, I ended up creating a custom VO specifically for my wagon and coding all the modules to factory default using my custom VO.

Do you remember who coded the CAS to DME? Will a dealer do it?

Thanks

On my swap I got my CAS FRM DME all coded together buy a guy in Oregon. PDX Bmw Specialist who I found on FB. I also got an MSD 81 DME at the same time.

I'm still dealing with coding problems, but my swap was more complex going from AWD to RWD.

Currently dying laughing at how small the world is. That's Daniel, he lives 2 minutes away from my house in Portland. He's the one who matched my CAS to my DME too hahaha.

+1 for him, he's a great guy. He's the one who did my walnut blast too, cheapest one the area by far and does great work. It was awesome to have him so close in case I had an issue

Why when swapping the engine and trans do you have to swap the subframes? Why not just have a driveline shop build new driveshafts? Are the diffs bigger 328 to 335? I’ve done motor swaps on other platforms…e91 is a new platform to me. Thanks.

After spending months researching on possible platforms/makes/models for my project, I came across Greg555's thread with his build and I became really interested in the idea. Fast forward a year or two, and here I am with one 2012 328i Touring, and one 2009 335i. LET THE FUN BEGIN!

Mechanically, the swap should be entirely straightforward for me. Both vehicles are LCI, and I've worked with cars plenty in the past. My cousin and I pulled his Miata engine multiple times (due to him breaking something out of sheer stupidity usually, but man do we have some great memories together), and recently we had to replace his n54 on his e92 due to a piston going AWOL : . I'm no stranger to redoing the entire front end of a car, and since both cars are RWD, everything should bolt right up from the sedan to the wagon. Unfortunately, both cars are autotragic as it's really difficult to find a perfect donor, but I do have plans to eventually convert it to a manual.

In terms of what will be swapped over to the wagon:
-Complete engine, transmission, driveline, differential, axles, hubs, brakes, subframes, essentially everything that could be considered an upgrade.
-iDrive dash from the e90 335, I don't have iDrive in the wagon and know I'm going to heavily regret not swapping it in, especially if it's right there.

I've started to research all the coding that I will need to do once the car is finished, and I believe I'll be able to do most of it myself. My cousin has also messed around with coding a few things in his e92 and has been successful, so I've got him to help me out as well.

Pics of both cars are below, I'll do my best to keep this thread as updated as possible on the progress of the build. The goal is to have it done by the end of the summer, hopefully sooner! I've got a lot of guys who are willing to help me out, so as long as I don't run into any major setbacks it should be done relatively quickly.

BTW, if anyone wants parts off of the 335i, PM me. I need the money for bolt-ons hahaha

There's a lot of variables here. Generally you don't have to swap rear subframes as they're the same between 328 and 335. but there are a bunch of little changes between chassis and changes between diffs. Usually you can cobble driveshaft halves together, reuse axles etc..If you're staying auto to auto or awd to awd etc it's not bad. When you start doing things like me where you go auto awd to manual rwd everything needs swapped.

Yeah he was super easy to deal with and reasonable on prices. He was responsive on messenger detailing what he was gonna do. If I get time to figure out my canbus issues I may ping him on a couple questions.
