Hey everyone,
I need some help. I bought my JB5 G5 back in January and I just got around to installing it. I looked at the video on the BMS site as well as DIY here on E90post. After install I started the car and it was idleing very rough. I fixed that problem but now it automatically goes right into limp mode when I start it. However, I am able to turn the JB4 on and change the maps and settings.

I read somewhere that maybe the board is fried? Any other suggestions or comments to help me out? That would be much appreciated!

car is currently back to stock so I am able to drive to work.

p.s. I have not got around to reading the codes I will do that later this week when I have some time.

Are your DME updates done?

I had a JB3 on my '08 when I first bought it. I removed the unit to do the required DME updates at the dealer, and when I got the car home and re-installed the chip, the car started doing the same things you have described above. I e-mailed Terry Burger himself, and he said the DME updates will no longer communicate properly with the JB3 and I would have to upgrade to a JB4. I had Mike from N54Tuning.com swap my board over using the same harness, and the problem disappeared and has not resurfaced again since.

The same thing might be happening to you. I see that you have an '07; if you haven't done the DME updates yet, the newer G5 board might not be able to communicate with your car properly.

If you haven't done these updates yet, that might be where you want to start, but take this with a grain of salt because I'm no expert; just speculating based on my experiences.

Thanks for the input! What was the cost of the DME updates at the dealer?

At the time, nothing, because I was still under warranty.

The DME compatibility has nothing to to with the G5. G5 works with all DME versions.

Sounds like the install has some issues. Did you buy this unit used?
